Better riding a slower bike fast, than a faster bike slow...  :icon_twisted:

I disagree. I love riding my faster bike slow as I revel in the knowledge I could smoke everything around me - without needing to prove it.

You too will learn this with maturity.  :thumb:

Very true, assuming you have the ability to properly ride it fast. Which most don't..

Ok. Well I actually got to see the bike in person yesterday. Honestly, it is not at all what I expected. It's very clean, not a spot of rust on the frame or in the tank. New rear tire, new chain. Carbs were rebuilt this season and she runs very, very smooth. I ran through everything I could think of and leaving out the clutch engagement issue, it would pass inspection with flying colors. Which, it did last year anyway. The inspection was current up until May.
Now, the negative. The clutch. It looks to be only an issue with the actual actuator arm and the bolt that actually holds it in the bike. I can't say that for sure without looking, but it makes sense after looking through the service manual.
The end deal I struck was this, I will help her find the parts. IF, IF, we can get it riding, and I can take it out and run it through it's paces with no issues, and I'm happy with the way it rides then we might have ourselves a deal. So basically, a little of my time, but no cash.

New thoughts?

Well...maybe as I get more mature I might end up thinking like that, but for now can't agree with that...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a street racer and I understand what you mean,  but I have much more fun pushing my bike than cruising... Even pushing my ex-ex 125cc Daelim was more fun than cruising with my current bike, even knowing that she is a beast!

Apart from having a "big tool", smoking a litre bike is a priceless feeling compared to smoking a 600 with my "small" 750, that's a really great feeling...too bad I don't get it too often!! :embarrassed:

In 2022, we talk again to check my opinion then!

I still say pass.  If your gs is really worth 1000 bucks and a 90s 600 is worth 2-300 dollars more.  I would save up a few hundred bucks over the next few months and just buy a running bike.   Whats your time worth?  I would pass just due to the hassle factor.  That and upgrading to a 90s era 600 is not worth it to me.  They are all still big heavy outdated.  If your going to upgrade, save your pennies, and upgrade to something more modern.  The little more you pay for an actual modern 600 you will be getting much better brakes, suspension, motor, maintenance, etc.

Ha. Yeah, cause that would not be awkward!! So, uh, here are some prettier pictures of THE BIKE I looked at. Going over to look again (only 10 minutes away) as I may have discovered the problem with a little bit of detective work on another forum.

(I realized after, that two of the pics are really out of focus)

Get the girl and the bike  ;) offer to ride with her to help her be a bit more comfortable on her bike  :thumb:

I don't see a downside to that trade in that case. If the bike runs and you can get it to shift / stop before committing to a deal, then the trade should work out.

Personally, I'm kind of done with 4cyl/4V bikes, and like the mechanical simplicity of 2 pistons/carbs, 4 valves total, and no fairings... but that's just me.

^^ That guy.  I'm....ugh....married. :dunno_black:

The fairings would come off this winter anyway, so non-issue. Things are kinda long shot anyway right now. After a 1 hour visit to look at the clutch itself, I was amazed. Pretty sure it has never seen use. So, that seems to be all working order. All I can think of now is that something is up with the clutch cable. Mind you, it was the first thing I checked, but I am leaning towards it either being the wrong cable or it is improperly routed.

The two issues I have found:

1. The clutch cover was improperly re-installed, so the release lever the cable pulls on was not seated properly.
2. The cable itself seems to be almost an inch too long. I double checked and after seeing that it is maxed out on adjustment and still won't pull on the clutch, I have to assume it is routed wrong causing it to not be tight enough to begin with...although, I don't see how that could be an issue. Too tight yes, too loose....I don't know.

Anyway. Thats the last thing I will be doing. One more short visit, if I can't get the cable issue resolved I'm out. Then it's back to the trusty GS, and my plans for winter hacking, painting and "bobbering"
