technically, I think you could make em work, but it's not worth the hassle removing and blocking off all the extras that come on the new ones. (GSJack, Adidasguy, or Buddha can verify) Just get an older set. I have an extra set of carbs but they are not complete. What are you looking for exactly?

i think my carbs need new emulsion tubes and thought since the newer carbs have three jets figured that would an upgrade and would be better off putting the money towards a good set of newer used carbs.  Soloratov how incomplete are your carbs?

I would have to put them back together and see, I know they are missing a few parts. Let me get back to you this evening.

Its a lot easier to put old carbs on a new engine than new carbs on an old engine. Too much extra electronics/vacuum tubes and PAIR systems and crap to re-route and block off.

Pair system: block one connection on a "T". You don't have a PAIR system now so there is no port on the airbox to block off. You don't need PAIR block-off plates.
TPS: only affects timing in the ICU so it can be ignored.
Mount the vacuum reservoir.
Deal with the clusterfuck of hoses.
Other stuff is trivial.

HOWEVER... You will have to go to the dual throttle cable. That means change the right handlebar control and newer ones have different connectors than older ones so you now have a PITA. (Some say you can run with a single throttle cable)
... and change your choke cable. It connects to the carbs in a different place so needs to be changed.

The engine is the same (other than a tach gear on older ones). If you were building a bike, then use new carbs along with new wiring harness. On an older bike, I suggest staying with older carbs unless you want a lot of little stuff to do. It is possible and not that big a deal except for the little stuff that is a PITA.

nice to know what i would be getting into so thanks for the heads up adidasguy  the mess of unnecessary hoses and the fact that i need to find other parts to get it to work doesnt sound like fun i like things simple but what is the vacuum reservoir needed for?? Soloratov please do keep me posted

I looked them over, and I am not sure I would feel right about sending them off just yet. They really need to be cleaned and I need to try to assemble all the parts and see what is missing. I will PM ya in the next day or so when I have a chance to assess the situation.
