home depot carries what they call a "kawasaki driver bit set".
It comes in varying sizes. One extreme example:
http://www.toolsmithonline.com/products/Kawasaki%E2%84%A2-117-Pc.-Drill-%26-Driver-Bit-Set.html

but they also have a smaller 27bit set.

I saw on a different bike forum, a post claiming,
"Just go buy a japanese made 'philips' screwdriver set, and they will be fine with JIS screws".

This makes theoretical sense, since assorted pages claim 'JIS driver -> philips screw = okay, but philips driver ->JIS screw bad"

But.. can anyone here confirm this, particularly hopefully with one of the above "kawasaki" bit sets?

That seems like a really general statement, and I'm not sure I'd stake money on a driver set based on it.  You might try looking through some of the 'specialty' screws in the store.  If they have JIS screws, you might be able to try the fit with the driver set -- with suitable adult supervision, of course.  ;)

That's just a drill & bit set made by Kawasaki. Just like Craftsman, Snap-on, etc.

Bah. Looks like I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow morning, when the local "Mcmaster" store opens up.

Happily, these guys are 5 miles from me.
They're just not open now.
