Installed my new chain and sprocket the other day. Finally got around to getting a pic.

EK SRX 520 chain, 110 link           +       Renthal Ultralight Sprocket, 16 Tooth

The SRX chain is supposed to be lighter than stock as well so I weighed them both.

Stock sprocket - 193 grams.

Renthal sprocket - 151 grams.

Stock chain - 1877 grams.

EK SRX chain - 1845 grams.

Not noticeable that I can tell. I think having a smooth chain that is aligned properly is what i feel the most.  :thumb:

A steal.

$84 for the chain shipped.       $31 for the sprocket shipped.

I know I could have gotten a JT sprocket a lot cheaper but I saved so much on the chain a splurged on the sprocket.

Trying to find a matching sprocket for the rear but the part number on Renthal's site doesn't seem to exist anywhere but on their site.

They look great.

As for weight savings? Meh....

There is a difference between weight savings on the rest of the bike, and weight savings in the drive system.  This kind of modification should provide a little bit more responsive feel to the bike, both on acceleration and deceleration due to the reduced interia of the spinning parts (theoretically).

Oh Adidas, check your link closer.

I do wish i had the bike that sprocket would fit though. I've tried searching the part number and it always changes the leading numbers. Put quotes around it and the only site I found selling it was in Russia.

As for performance, it seems to really kick hard after each gear change, like I feel the bike launch harder each time I drop back into the power band.

Less energy should be needed to get the sprocket and chain spinning at the same speed as the engine when letting out the clutch, so that makes some sense.  It probably is actually harder to make shifts feel smooth with a lightened drive system.

Also be prepared for the sprockets to wear much faster as you probably already know.

Thanks for the link!

My front sprocket was the tiniest bit worn on the leading edge. But nothing that concerns me after 12000 miles.

The rear sprocket looked perfect. I was really surprised. No dulling on any of the teeth.

I just installed the non-gold EK SRX chain I managed to get for $57. Their screw master link $7 works very well also. For less then half the price of other chains hopefully it last just as long.

Where did you get that deal? I just bought one for $90-ish

The model number for this one is 701-520srx-110 for $57. They have a different 520srx-110 model number $71. I have confirmed with EK that 701-520Srx is exactly the same as 520srx (701 stands for "EK"). The same chain for two different prices-even the seller didn't know how to explain it lol.

Get it while they got it.  That chain is boxed as a ATV chain and they probaly got them at a better price.  Way back in 1999 when I bought my first GS500 replacement chain I found a DID o-ring chain for $55 at Chaparral being sold as ATV chains and I bought that one and then 5 more of them thru 2006 one at a time at the same $55.  After that they no longer had that listing and the same DID o-ring chain listed with motorcycle chains had jumped way up to same $80 or so they were generally being sold for.  Appearantly they had run out of stock on the $55 ATV ones.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.
