Hola. I'm currently considering a 04 F. It went without meeting reserve on eBay, was only bid up to $1700. I contacted the seller and he is now asking for $2300. 2400 miles, chip in right lower fairing, dent on front edge of tank. Looks pretty clean otherwise.

I've been looking around craigslist and eBay for for the past few months and the auctions never seem to go above $2K and listing one with a first bid of more than $1500 is like saying "please don't bid on this auction". It's hard to get an idea of what They are going for since so many go un-bid on or don't meet reserve.

Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence of how much these are going for - sold one, bought one, know someone who did?

thanks in advance.

I guess I should have specified "currently" and "more specifically to 04-07s...

What year/condition was it in when you got it? I think I saw a 90 or 89 go for $700. It was at the rattlecan matte black stage of it's life, but I would have considered if I was closer to the seller.

Good price, the "F" seem significantly more money in Canada. I spent 3400 on m7 05 with 6k km and that was a good price!

I bought my '98 for $1500 in '09.  I lurked on craigslist for about 2-3 months before I bought it.  Most likely, you're going to get better prices on craigslist, since people don't have to pay the ebay fees, you don't have to bid against other people, and you can usually haggle over the price.

When I was looking, pre-2001 averaged about $1800, and 2001+ were all $2400+

Prices in the LA area seem to have gone up recently, and even the pre-2001 models are listed for $2000+.

I would just be patient.  With the end of the riding season approaching, prices should probably go down.

My 2007 GS500F was $2400, bought it through Craigslist in August. 6800 miles, great condition, came with a new rear tire, tail bag, and battery tender. Seems like most of the ones I see are selling from the high $2000's to low to mid $3000's.

I bought my 2006 gs500f with 16k miles for 2800 and came with a jacket and 2 helmets. Helmets were pretty beat up but the jacket was nice. Fairings are decent but showed wear and tear in non obvious spots.

My '02 with 11xxx m cost me $1600. A very similar one in my area was a few years older went for $1200. All these have been local ads. Didnt need anything and looks to have been well maintained. So considering the mileage on the OP and the year i would say that $2000 would be reasonable. But then you have to think about the cost of posting and selling on ebay so he may have that reserve to actually get what he wants after ebay eats some of that money.

Seller was asking 3000 for the 2006 I have, got it for 1800. great deal if you ask me!  :)

Thanks for the responses. I've decided to hold off. I am in no rush and will at least be waiting until after T-Day to see if I'll stay in NY or head back south for a while. Feel free to keep submitting what you find, though. The variance in pricing and geography is interesting.

I meant to add one I saw a few days ago - I think it was an 07 with damage for $3900. I guess the new old stock prices have got some people confused.

And I think the NOS prices are high.

Shoot, I stole the '94 I just bought a few weeks ago. $900 with 4300 miles-original owner. I was minty fresh clean when I went to look at it.

iclrag

After reading the paperwork, mine is a '06 GS500F with 7,000 miles on it and a slavage title, but it was originally on sale for $2,000

Where are you located at? Prices vary from state to state.      nada.com can give you a good range on the value of the bike in your area. I'd suggest buying locally, deals can always be found if your patient enough. Ebay is great for smaller/cheaper stuff but I'd be hesitant in buying something that I haven't seen or ridden in person. Even private sellers will act like a used car salesman and talk up there bikes and omit needed maintenance or problems in order to make a sale.
I paid $2300 for mine w/ a little under 7500 miles on it. A bit on the steep side but I wasn't very patient in my search (searched for 2 days, test rode 2 bikes). Taxes are dirt cheap on used bikes in my state as long as you go through a private seller (flat $25 fee i think?, check your state but will be way cheaper than buying used from a dealership). You can find good deals this time of year b/c people want to buy new ones next riding season or don't want to store them (more bargaining power for you).

BockinBboy

Taxes are the same in Illinois on used bikes... A low, flat fee.  The type of sale definitely played a role in how much I was going to pay for a bike, and not just the typical condition, miles, etc of the bike itself.

but at dealerships it's not a flat fee right? You have to pay the sales tax %?

:icon_eek:  <- literally what I looked like when I saw the price. I just made the deposit that would cover this...if I weren't 2000 miles away. Stupid continental divide...
