wreck the bike today after work =[ I spent all day at the hospital. and other then scrapes and bruises, and A nasty tear in my knee cap, im fine. I dont have any pictures of the bike, but its a complete wreck, I was coming down the highway, in the speed lane, and A lady tried to dash across the highway in front of me, I wouldve hit her in the side, but i jerk the bike to the road and jumped off, I slid down the highway off the bike, at about 60mph. my friends were behind me in a truck quickly jumped out to help, I got off the ground by myself. And I almost cried to see my bike in the condition it was. im waiting to hear from her insurance, Im ready to have a bike again. maybe a gs500 again, but I would take any suzuki, a gsxr, or even a sv650. the looks are great, And I'll still be here, since I have a week pass from work. im just sore. =/

Glad that you are ok.  Unless you have a police report, good luck getting anything from the insurance.  Especially since it doesn't sound like she actually made contact with you.

I'll get the police report Monday. My bike struck her front bumper. She admitted to it being her fault. She pulled out and didn't realize how close I was. I was just cruising down the highway. And she was at a stop sign. I was kinda hoping it was obviously her fault. Because I couldn't avoided that accident with all the traffic.

It's funny how some people's story changes when they realize it will cost them something.  Remember her insurance should be paying your doctors too.

Ryanstalin

The claims adjuster from her insurance should call me in a few days. I'm trying now to find out the value of my bike. The last time it was registered it had 80 miles on it. And I'm the third owner.

That's a real bummer.
Wish you lived in Seattle. I'd say come over and let's build you a new GS500.
Get well soon.

You were riding with full gear right? Glad you are ok

When I ride its full calf boots (Alpinestars), gloves are Frank Thomas kangaroo skin with knuckle guards, pants are kevlar Sartso or Draggin, I've got Knox Armor knee guards and my non winter jackets is a Suzuki textile jacket with elbow, shoulder and back protectors in it. My winter jacket is a full leather Technic jacket with Armor also. My helmet is a Masei modular helmet and soon to be Shoei.

I bought my Sartso, helmet and knee guards new. Everything else was used but like new and at a fraction of the cost.

I did a low side some time back with my Sartso jeans on and not even a scratch in the jeans. I did get a carpet burn on my right elbow from the inside of the jacket. Had I worn long sleeves, I likely wouldn't have gotten that.

Get you some gear and WEAR it ALL the time.

Glad to hear you are OK, too bad about the bike.
Think of it as an excuse to get a different bike! I hope you get a desent amount for it, at least enough for another bike.

As far as gear goes I always feel better when I ride with gear on.
Follow the path of least acceptance!

ThatOtherGuy

yep, can't ride without gear I'm afraid.  had too many offs bicycling to know what it feels like to have gravel rash.  its that one time you do not wear the gear and have that off that you think if only I was wearing.......

When I'm freeway riding, I keep things simple, and just wear a full teknic track suit. integrated knee, elbow, hip, neck, and butt protection .
(although I did spend $50 for a separate back protector insert)

Once you add up costs of FULL protection , it starts to come out at similar cost. If you can find a used suit that fits you well, it's even less.

weedahoe

I don't see how a suit can cost the same or less than kevlar jeans a jacket. With a suit, you still need boots and gloves.

I didnt say the same, if new. I said close to.

decent jacket = $200
decent pants+knee protection: at LEAST $200

oh wait.. it CAN be cheaper, even new. There's a closeout suit at
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Categories.bok?category=Leather+Race+Suits%3AShow+All
brand new, for $350.

ALthough of course, the usual price for a cheap, new track suit, is around $500-$600
Suits used to be more expensive than this, 10 years ago. prices have come down.

If you're gonna drop $400 for lag and torso protection... get serious, spend another $200, and be fully protected from abrasion at 70mph plus.

weedahoe

My Sartso I bought new at 130 a pair and my Knox knee guards were another 80

My Draggins I actually bought used off ebay for about 50 but look like they were never worn

Im not educated on suits because the costs Ive seen them always discouraged me. But I will  look into them.

Believe me I'm going to invest in a suit. My friend has a go army suit and ballistic jeans.

Oh..... crashed and now you want some gear huh ;)

But seriously, don't be one of those guys we see riding with no gear because they want to look cool. It's not cool. It's stupid.
