Anyone using an LED bulb in the headlight?

I recently replaced my parking bulb in the headlight with a 7w cree T10 and uh......WOW....... its insanely bright. I mean it hurts my eyes looking straight at it bright. I tried to take some pics but the camera auto adjusts to the brightness and doesnt really capture it at its best lighting output.

So I was going to do an HID bi-xenon projector retrofit in the headlight but now I rethinking that.

Although I might still later do a HID projector retrofit. Im thinking i might just put an LED bulb in it instead. But before I even do that Im thinking of buying a 7w or a 20W cree H4 bulb and seeing how well it works alone

But before I do that, Im wondering if anyone else is using a LED bulb for a headlight bulb?

Anyone?

BTW, beginning pics are here.

I tried an LED H4 bulb in mine but it was shite but it may have been a poor quality one from china that made it look crap?

I dont think they will be any good either going by the listing?
Specifically made for reverse lights and/or fog lights?

Not DOT approved, though i can't remember where you're from. the problem with LEDs is yes, they are bright, but the intensity drops off dramatically if they are not focused properly, ie - projector type lens, properly distanced from the source.

Yeah, these are supposed to have lens in them (cree) so IDK how they would turn out. I might order a set and see. If they don't, at least I won't lose much and I can still do the HID projector setup

A 20watt Cree h4 led bulb? How much does that cost?

I used a 26 SMD H3 LED bulb on a Razor MX650 (electric dirt bike) as a way of adding headlights without overly draining the battery.

The 26 SMD isn't bright enough for street bike use, but is fine below 20 MPH.

I just can't see an LED headlight bulb being able to "throw" light to the appropriate 28 ft.

It can throw the light that far... more a question of intensity.

I have LED fog lights. Main light is stock.
Anything you get must be DOT approved or in Europe be E-marked. If not, it won't equal your stock light for light output and pattern.

A real DOT approved 7" round replacement is right now about $300

If you're doing it to reduce power, no worry. We have plenty of extra power available.

If for light, add fog lights. The 2 extra points of light make you appear a bugger object. 3 points of light make it easier for cagers to judge your distance.

Without and WITH my Denali fog lights turned on.

hells bells! .. thats a big change in distance pickup! ... denali eh!? ... mmmm wheres my shopping list ...

can tell the slightly different angle/pattern/height of the denali's though ... and why they cant be on all the time too ..

where are they actually mounted?

the whole LED bulb thing though ... cheap chinese led units..... are cheap and fail much much quicker ... so if anyone wants light to see with at night....  it kinda makes sense to pay the cash the things and your life are worth.

i have used cheap LED units for various applications in the past ... its majorly inconvenient when the $2 'jus as goo as leal bur'b' fails and you cant see shaZam! at that critical moment ..

sure the expensive ones wear out too ... and they do have stuff ups/ bad ones .. but overall you pay for quality/longevity.

I mount them on the lower fork using the reflector mount that is on the newer forks. There is a bracket to mount them on the lower triple or where ever you want. Lower fork is best in my opinion when you have a fairing. Hence a reason I also like the Harley stick-on fork reflectors!

I do run them all the time. make me more visible during the day.
