We call it a smoothing reactor - but yes, air coil.  This one is rated 350kVDC 200A continuous. so a tad bigger than you find in a radio.. this unit is used to smooth the output from a large stack of thyristors.

I initially thought it looked like a fluorescent light bulb lol. Does it have to do with fluid flow of some sort?

Lol .. Yeah .. Not unfamiliar with the concept ... Used speed loaders on my S&W 586 .357 years ago ... And the venerable old .303 had 5shot speed clips also ...

But .... How many times anyone plan to miss? .. That's an awful lot of ammo to be flipping around on your person...  :dunno_black:
