I actually traded a rifle for my 2005 GS500F. I got it because my wife said she wanted to learn and I wanted a commuter bike. It has been laid down though.

So where is a good place to look for fairings?
Will GSXR600 fairings fit on the bike? (found a decent price on a kit for it)
Is there any other bike that has the same size pipe for a slip on can?

Thank you

Ginger.

Do you want fairings?  You could just take them off and go from there?  Lots of people prefer that look.  You could fix your old fairings or keep an eye out on ebay or CL for random decent ones and put together what you need.

If it's a learning bike you might not want to invest a whole lot into fixing the fairings and then, oops while learning, drop it again.

Good luck to you and welcome in.  Oh and need pix.  :dunno_black:

Yea I want the fairings because its going to be a minute before she is going to ride it, she had a car wreck and is weary of it. But in the mean time it is mine to ride to work and I want a project lol.  :D Pic's are coming soon and thank you for the welcoming!

Look good.  Why not just fix what you have?  I mean they don't look fubar'd.

Thinking about the lower front fairings, they are salvageable but the headlight cowling is deff melted. Can't really see it in the pic but the side it was laid down on it con-caved and the inside fairing for it is bubbled and deformed.

And yea my German Shepard hates the bike so she didn't want to be in the same room as it, and the husky in the cage also wants to ride.  :thumb:

Another question tho, is there any way to adjust the way the front wheel points in relation to the handle bar, its ever so slightly off. But just enough to drive me nuts riding it. :cookoo:

#7
$200+ for a new right side.
For now, 3 choices:
1. Leave as is and if you decide to drop the bike, do it on the right side
2. get factory colors and repaint it
3. Watch ebay - one should show up in the next month.

OK - seeing new posts. If bubbled and deformed, sounds like the fairing bracket is bent. You can buy good ones on ebay pretty cheap.
Your left bar end needs to be shoved back in.

If steering off,
1. Check for bent handle bars
2. Check for bent fork
3. Take all weight off the front. Loosen fork upper & lower triples and allow forks to settle back where they should be
(My bet is on #1 then #2)

Awesome thank you for the info we will see what it is.

Possible the steering stem upper and lower triples are not in alignment. After a crash, when the handlebars got banged on the right side, it could knock them off. However, when that happens probably a fork is bent.

You should loosen the steering stem bolt and lock nut, too.

We have seen a bent lower triple clamp. That was found when sliding in a fork tube up from the lower one. It didn't line up with the upper one on one side because it was bent on that side.

Check handle bars first.

If not that, then it can be more serious dealing with the forks and possible the triple clamps. You may need to remove the front wheel and forks to check out everything.

If you need parts, there are plenty of parts whores here that have spare parts.  Fairings not that common. Forks and triple clamps are readily available.

To check a fork for bent tube: lay the fork on a flat surface. Rotate the upper fork tube. If straight, as you rotate it, the top end will stay the same distance from the table. If bent, it will go around & up and down (like turning a bent bolt).

Well just loosened up everything and looked up close at it and seems that it has a bent fork. :dunno_black: oh well i guess I'll add that to the shopping list....
