Never been around snow country much... But I see some rusty bits lower down... From road salting I expect... So that would be my main concern.... That all the bits you can't see that do get affected by the salt have been properly or at least reasonably maintained!

Oh rust is the first thing anyone here looks for when buying here in the mitten.

Granted I am tired, but I dont see any rust, in the pics anyway, other than the chain and peg bracket. Frame seems clean. Much more so than most of the GS's for sale in my area.

Was just thinking at the time... Where would the salt be able to get into that you can't see?? ... Swing arm pivot? , axles? , engine mounts? ...

But you live there so you know it anyway!

I think nobody knows it better than my brother, he has bought 2 used cars and had the frames break on them from rust. Tought me the importance of regular winter underbody washes 

Anywho, I know on the gs I bought back in Sept. The only real rust on it was the battery box and chain. ANd i got it for 750. PO wanted 1300. I felt pretty good about it, it was just FUGLY. Im working on making it a (near) stock beauty.....if I ever get my funds.

I do appreciate your advice, but rust check on areas of structural importance is the first check on the list for any vehicle I purchase in this state.

Purple bikes will give you issues for months and months! I painted mine black and now it likes to be mostly reliable lol

I live reasonably close to PatheticPuma...the ride would likely be counted in minutes rather than hours. So I quite agree that first on the list of checks for used vehicles from the area is rust.

For any rust on a motorcycle around here, I would more expect poor maintenance (putting away wet, not cleaning/lubing appropriately, etc) than salt from riding on snowy/icy roads.

I see you are in GR as well.  I was beginning to think I was the only one...

What you say about the poor maintenance is very valid, but at the same time with how much they over-salt the roads around here (and jenison-zealand, where I rode the most last year) I got quite a bit of salt on my bike left over from the winter months while riding those first few weeks of spring, which I immediately washed. Not AS likely to be the cause for rust, but a small possibility.

Also, now that I have had some sleep and am not on my phone, i do see more rust than at first. I still think it could be worth the trip to check it out, especially if I can get him to lower the price
