So I stopped by the bike night promotion that the local CycleGear had last night.  All kinds of sick sport bikes were there, CBR-RRss, R1s, a ZX-14 plus a pair of Ducati's that just made you drool. Plenty of fancy paint and every bolt on you can imagine..  Killer Taco stand too, you can't beat free tacos... :)

(Only one pic then my phone went dead)

I was looking to pick up a modular helmet, they carry the BiLT brand of products and they have a nice modular with an internal sun screen that pops down. Pretty slick. The helmet fits OK but does make my glasses sit higher. Anyone have a modular helmet and or Bilt helmet and how do you like it?

I can't speak for the modular helmets but all of my gear is Bilt (including my helmet).  I have never had to use it and hope I never need it but it does the job.  I was going to try the modular on but I decided I had no use for it.  The manager at my local Cycle Gear was great and took plenty of time with me.  I tried a ton of helmets on from AGV, SevenZeroSeven, HJC, Shoei, and Bilt.  The Bilt fit the best in my price range.  If I wanted to spend $350 I would have gone with the HJC just to feel safer about the brand.

HJC Symax-II and another HJC

Love them all.

I put them on and off without having to remove my glasses.
Flip up when going into stores and don't bother to remove it.
Flip up when you need to yell at cagers that just nearly killed you by pulling out in front of you.

Oh did not try that. I like the helmet, its the price that scares me, I keep thinking of the old saying
"Got a $50 dollar head? Get a $50 dollar helmet" In this case its $99  ;)

Geeez, your making me feel old today, when I first heard that it was:

When I started riding I bought an open face Bell for summers and a few months later a FF Bell for winters and used those 2 for years, should really have been using the FF year around I guess but hadn't even heard about ATGATT back then.

About 10 years ago I bought a HJC Symax flip face to replace the open face when we started the trips to the mountains to play.  I've worn glasses for decades and it was very convenient to be able to put the helmet on without removing the glasses and to walk into stores just flipping it up, but the Symax was rather heavy compared to previous helmets.

When I totalled the 97 GS the Ins Co gave me $200 for the helmet damage and I bought a FF Shoei RF1000 and it was/is a great helmet, much lighter than the Symax flip face.  A couple years ago I also picked up a CL Max a bit cheaper than the Symax for winter use but it sat right on or very close to my eyegsasses and when I slammed the bar down it felt like I was breaking my nose.  Something to watch for since you wear glasses.

Still have the RF1000 and it looks good as new but is maybe too old or at least that's what the Helmet industry wants us to believe.  So I bought a HJC IS-33 open face with the full built in face shield and also the built in sunshield.  I like the HJC mechanism for operating the sunshield particularly the way you can just tap the top of your helmet and it quickly flips up out of the way.  I had started to use a light tinted shield on the RF1000 summers and found it was necessary to flip it up when going fast from sunshine into shady corner.  Couldn't clearly see the road surface in the shade with the tinted shield.

Another feature that probably doesn't affect you, the open face helmets have a much wider field of view than the full or flip face ones do and at my age I can't turn my head half as far as I use to but I have been blessed with excellent peripheral vison so I'm good to go with a wide open helmet.  That's a good trade-off for a chin bar for an old man just putting around I think, could still use the RF1000 if I ever get young enough again to return to the mountains.   :icon_lol:  Just saying you need to find what kind of helmet is best for you.
