Hey guys, quick update,

Put some JB weld over the spot that I figured was a weld job gone bad (havent looked for sure) but it doesnt really matter cause I will be covering the JB weld with bondo anyways. Also I applied acid to the rust spots under the paint on the top of the tank.

Sanded the whole tank and got rid of the ugly pin stripes then primered the exposed metal and spots that needed some touch up work and did the touch up work.

I also bead blasted and scotch brited the gas cap

My original thought was to paint the whole thing black, but now I am thinking to just clear coat it cause the paint could chip and not look good. What do you guys think? The plain aluminum could be a cool touch on a black tank.

I painted the center black and left the outer ring aluminum.  I just wire wheeled it to make it look a little cleaner.  If you're planning on leaving it I would hit it with some fine grade paper to clean up the scratches or at least scuff it all in one direction.

The gas flap is supposed to be the same as the rest but I think I forgot to flip it over and paint it before I reassembled to ride.  I have just been too lazy to take it all apart since then.  It has chipped a little since then but just small dings that aren't noticeable.

Yea that's how it was at first, but the guy painted bad as always and it was chipping. Those scratches are super deep but I was thinking about trying sand paper too, that's a good idea. I love the rear of your bike btw haha

Cleaned the whole bike and cleaned/lubed the chain last weekend just havent been able to get near it, and wont be able to until next weekend. Anyways, I liked these pictures so I thought I might as well throw them up on here.

Finally got the tank painted. It still has some of its battle scars faintly visible but I don't really care about those too much, builds character.

Next will be wet sand after the paint cures overnight and decals then clear coat, then sand and polish :( Haha...

Haha true my friend... Speaking of, i just had to take the valves out of my seven fifty again after re seating them and put oil seals on that i didn't know were coming with the gasket kit i bought. Total pain in the rear but was with it.

And thanks! Can't wait to clear coat everything and get it back on the bike.

just noticed the scion! I have two MKII supras in the garage amid prolonged transplants.. see the projects can get back shelved for some time...believe me i know. I have moved through so many other vehicles and about 6-7 bikes in the last 5 year's and haven't touched my project cars. 4 stall garage and we park our daily drivers outside... there's just no room with the 2 bikes and quad and my two supras.. one day I will either sell em or get back to business. so keep on it, they are easy to get distracted and forget.

Well talk about forgotten projects... Heres my 65 Mustang I havent touched for four years... Cant wait till I have my own garage to work on it some more, it was really beat up when we got it. This is what it looks like presently:

Anyways, here is my gas tank. I was wet sanding it this morning and it was going perfectly fine until I pulled it out of the sink and gouged the knee pad area with the faucet and made a hole in the paint down to primer... Anyways, despite that I repainted and put the decals on where I could and will be wet sanding the new painted areas tomorrow morning and hopefully applying clear coat... I also messed up and got an air bubble in the suzuki s on the other side of the tank. I will attempt to fix this tonight with a heat gun thing.

i got 2! .. put them on the fairing 'cheek vents' at front edge of lower fairing .. less wear and tear and possible oil on them there... plus anyone who knows what sonics are will still 'get it'

make sure if you actually have just 'one' sticker... mine were kinda stuck one on top of other?

Hahahaha that was a good one. Yea, there is a sneaky little check box at like the last step of purchasing that asks if you want a free sonic springs sticker, you can either get black or white.
