When you guys don't want to carry your helmet with you, what do you use to secure your helmet to the bike since the under seat tabs seem pretty flimsy? I've been on Amazon checking stuff out. I'm thinking of just using the cable gun lock that I have in my collection. Any thoughts?

I use the one under the seat when needed as it is just fine, otherwise I just leave it hanging on the mirror. Helmet theft is not really an issue here. :dunno_black:

Under seat lock works for me.

If someone wants it they will get it... But if you put a roadblock in the way it might mean they will go for easier pray. Also if someone cuts the strap to get it free... They basically ruin the helmet.

Suzi has license plate double helmet locks.
Remember: you can't prevent someone from stealing your helmet unless it is with you or in a case. Easy to cut a chin strap.

I use a caribiner type Helmet Lock. Through the chinstrap D-rings and around the handle bar with the helmet itself resting on the tank. As already mentioned, cutting the trap ruins the helmet anyway. I've heard of people pissing in helmets that are hanging on the side of the bike, hence I like mine up a bit higher.
Wherever you may be, there you are.

I use a bicycle cable lock to run through the the chin bar then the handlebars. It is even long enough to run up the sleeve of my jacket if I want to leave it on the bike.

Would you mind post a picture of that? I found out today (given the area I'm in and how "great' folks are around here) that I need something to lock mine up. I might go the cable route since I will also need a place to leave my jacket since in FL wearing it while not moving isnt going to happen LOL.

the "under seat lock" is the one mentioned in the owners manual. You see it when you take off the seat. Usually there is one on each side of the frame.

As said before, I usually will will mine on the tank up against the gauges or sometimes even on the ground right behind the front wheel. Occasionally I will use the lock under the seat. Generally, hanging them off the mirrors, bars or anywhere else not 100% secured where it can fall can damage it so sitting on the ground or using the OEM lock is best

+1 on OEM under-seats. I actually avoid them only on the basis of wet weather; unless i'm leaving the bike for long periods/out of view/questionable neighborhood?

no worries; I suppose you could route the wires in them if you didn't use them for helmets! I just love the design behind the gs; little things like that make big difference.

I think i read the info on the wiki before i even purchased the bike! (not like i'm a lurker or anything...) wait, post counts are public?  :P

you can alternately use one of those cable locks on the helmet 'locks' under your seat to:

thread it through your jacket, helmet, and whatever else and it looks very secure.

if you carry a cover with you in a backpack or saddlebag, it's a really good visual deterrent. keeps kids off the bike too. out of sight, out of mind.

I put my gloves in the helmet and hang the helmet open side inward with the shield closed and when I want to leave my jacket I hang it over the helmet.  It all clamps down tight and the helmet and gloves are out of sight.  Has worked for me for 14 years and 175k GS500 miles.
