Follow my advice from an earlier post...
Get a second set of running carbs for the bike and when time & money permits, rebuild the originals.

Unless of course you have a second bike to ride while the 450 is down for carb work.

Yeah, I know... it's kinda' costly to have 4 carbs for a 2 cylinder bike but, well...  :dunno_black:

I bit the bullet and ordered diaphragms... $US66 for both including shipping is too good a price to ignore.

Those carbs are for the newer 450's... more like the older GS500's I think.

The GS500 carbs here locally are $150 but they look crusty like they've been sitting for a while so they're gonna need a rebuild. All the decent ones I see over in the US are $US150+ and shipping ain't cheap...

When measuring for the diaphragms yesterday I noticed another two small tears so I really need to do something soon, hopefully the new diaphragms are the answer  :thumb:

I had to overhaul and sync carbs on a cbx :technical: while at mmi. My job for a couple weeks was to resurrect a cbx. A fully dressed one. It was like an ugly person at a dance. They know its there, but wont go near it. I not knowing what i was getting into said why not.I'll give it a try. Got to admit, at first it sucked. But actually was fun :embarrassed:

Pete. ... 'another' 2 small tears and you say soon? .... naaaaaah really!? Lol ;)

Pete,
As long as you know what your up against I see no problem with riding until your diaphragms have completely disintegrated.
Hell, eventually you can simply reach down the throat of the carbs and lift the needle with your fingers, (at 100kph)  :icon_mrgreen:  :icon_rolleyes:

Keep us posted on your progress. Maybe a couple of pics of the repair work too!

Speaking of pics...
Found an old shot of my bikes, (before I sold the GS). Probably Summer 2010.

Love whoring the bikes.  ;)

Hahaha lifting the needles at 100kph indeed! Hmmm... bit of wire connected to the throttle maybe... hahaha

Nice pic there EJ, nice to see the stable!  :thumb:

Working on a CBX? Hmmmm nah... 4 on a Kat would be fine but not 6!!

And soon is right Janxy! Hahaa soon indeed!

USPS tells me they have arrived at a USPS facility in Chicago... I won't see them this week but hopefully early next week. I can make a needle adjustment in about 45 min's which includes getting the tank off and on, so it should be about a two hour job for the diaphragms I reckon, potentially doable at night so I can test ride on the commute which is always so much fun...

More of my 07 GS500F whoring. . .
And yes, those are "chicken strips" on the side-walls of that rear tire.  :embarrassed:

Heh... I feel like a cheap tramp.

And here's the carbs shortly before I did surgery on them with a bag full of "Buddha" parts. . .

Anyhoo, month and half ago, pain develops in left ear. Made appt with surgeon to check/remove both tubes. Today, severe pain in l ear, with off andd on hearing loss. My appt isnt until the 22nd. Not gonna :/ make it. Another surgeon won't touch others work. Idk what to do. >:( :technical:   pain is intense 12 on a scale of 10

Ouch Yama! And I mean literally ouch! Ear pain is maddening... fingers crossed it's something simple like an ear infection and not worse than that!

And I neglected to mention there will be pic's of diaphragm replacement... even if it goes pear shaped and I'm sitting on the floor weeping... hahaha
