Well said EJ!  :thumb:

142.5 mains in last night so we'll see how she goes... and of course it's raining and I had to stick 98 octane fuel in it yesterday coz they were out of 95  :technical:

Just means the comparison won't be spot on but close enough to see if the main has had the desired effect...

Slips was a bit highly strung! ... but he don't hang with us plebs anymore!

Heh...
A high-strung Beamer Dude.  :icon_mrgreen:

If I wasn't so damn tall I'd still have my GS500. Maybe even two of em' by now.

The GS was a lot more fun than the DL but it was a cramped fit.
I used a booster seat, bar-risers, and dropped pegs, and I was still cramped as hell on the GS.

I kinda' felt like an ape riding a tricycle.  :icon_neutral:

It was an AirHawk. It kinda' looked like this one...

It helped keep my knees from getting caught under my chin when I put my feet on the pegs.

Booster seat hey? Awesome I'd like to see that! Hahahaaha

Carbs are still too damn leeeaaaaaannn!!!!! Put the needles in richest position last night, no idea what to do if that doesn't solve it... I have bigger mains but surely 10 sizes up is enough! We shall see how it goes today...  :technical:

I don't have an air/fuel ratio meter to lend you, but a good starting point might be two fresh clean spark plugs.
A clean plug makes it a bit easier to do a plug-chop.

The other difficult question is; Are you too lean at idle, mid, or max throttle? Without a dyno and an ratio meter you may drive yourself mad trying to nail this down.

Just saying.

May?  ... there is no may! ... there is just MAD! :cookoo:  lol

peteGS

Mad it is!!!! This is sending me mad... haha

It is definitely either the needle or the main that is lean, idle circuit is fine although a workaround yesterday of winding the mixture screws out a full turn has the idle circuit too rich now.

I did however manage to get home nearly hesitation/stumbling free!

Last night I put the mains from 142.5 to 145 and left the mixture screws where they are.

If I get to work and back hesitation/stumbling free, I will do the dodgy richer than rich needle setting and set the mixture screws back in a bit and that should have me sorted  :thumb:

Two things left to do are new plugs and a carb balance, the right is definitely a little leaner than the left going by plug colour, but I haven't had an opportune time to get that done yet... maybe Sunday.

That gives me an idea. . .
How about tuning the left carb to run correctly from idle to 5000 RPM, and the right carb to run proper from 5000 to red line? ? ?
That way you would have at least one jug running at the proper mixture at all times.  :whisper:

That's called Yankee ingenuity.  :thumb: <cough-cough>

Janx101

That's brilliant!  .. extending the idea tho.. .. setup the right side with high compression piston, aggressive cam grind, blue print and balance, bore/stroke the cylinder... so it has a redline of maybe 15k? .. then Florence the right carb and up the jets to feed it right....

Commute on left side of engine and track days on the right side! ... howzat for ingenuity!?! Lmao

Janx101

Florence? .. wth!  .. flow bench

Hahahahah love it guys! I'm onto it tonight!!!! Well maybe not... hahaha

I'm damn close at the moment, 145 mains made a difference but mixture screws at 3.5 turns out is too rich at idle, so I'm pretty sure the answer is simply that the new diaphragms are a slightly deeper dish than the old ones, so it's still just not quite lifting the slide enough.

So, the answer to that is my dodgy richer than rich position on the needle again with the mixture screws wound back in  :thumb:

Oh, and try to find time for a carb sync tomorrow...

Hahahaha

Gonna be a great week this week!!!!

1. State elections yesterday, a bit close but seriously looks like the arrogant fools who have ignored us and tried to pull the wool over our eyes with dodgy practices for the last 3 years will be gone  :thumb:

2. Lane filtering for motorcyclists was introduced today so my commute just got easier.

3. I'm gonna nail these carbs!
