Hahaha oh you lot... better watch my grammar!!!!

And no, no metal in that bar... not convinced it's working but I haven't given up yet either.

I'll persevere for a bit longer... it is a lot larger dent than it's designed for!

Hopefully that link works Pete,  but if not Ytube search 'stud weld dent puller' ...

I've only ever done bodgy backyard panel work with a mate but that dent of yours doesn't look like a low pressure solution! :thumb:

Ddp!  :P

Felt seedy and sore throat at lunch, now ache everywhere and shivers. ... dreaded man flu! .... but hopefully my differently motivated immune system will have it sorted in 8 hours or so when I wake up for work!

Been that way for 2 decades.... miss out on lurgy for 3 or 4 years then have an overnight episode....

Still on light duties from knee (recovering well.with focussed exercises) .. so I can probably manage if I'm still influenced! .... even though workers comp, unless I have a pre notified medical appt then no work is no pay!

I hate shivering!

peteGS

Hahaha nice Janx! On the DDP that is...

Bugger on the shivers!!! You don't get sick leave?? That sucks!!

Good call on the stud puller, have seen them in use on the car shows on Discovery Turbo... but I don't have a MIG and I'm disinclined to do something like that to a fuel tank myself anyway... my welding skills are "ahem" average at best.

However I do have an old swingarm shaft that I think may come in handy... tack a nut on the end the same thread as those pulling rods I have and improvise a slide hammer with that. Might just do the trick if the glue holds strongly enough.

I think some of the issue is actually the paint that's on there. It doesn't seem to be of particularly good quality and I suspect it's starting to pull the paint off before pulling the dent, so I may need to sand that back so it can get a better purchase.

Either way, no rush on the repair so I can just try stuff here and there as I get time, plenty of other things to do! Like make an engine stand attached to the workbench so I can get the Kat motor up off the floor and split the cases  :thumb:

Casual employee on light duty... no sick days :/

Would have to be hectic glue bro! ... even rough sand bare metal would be hard to slide hammer enough pressure to shift the ding. ..

Those stud welder units. . Pretty easy to use..  place and pull trigger... vaguely recall seeing a mention of hire option for them too? ... would be ideal situ!

Janx is down with the flu?

Not good! :technical:

True!... finished with shivers and aches when I woke up.... but now got cough like an old steam tractor with a leaky cylinder!..... but least it covers the frat noise that the cough also creates! ;)

peteGS

Oh nice Janxy, musical man!!! :D

I will have to research further on stud pullers etc... see what I can see  ;)

Stud service? Heh... we're getting spicy on the old LPW thread, eh?

And Pete... A dented tank is one of the oldest problems in motorcycling.
I'm sure you could find a cure on one of the old bike restoration forums. Maybe a Classic Harley forum?
Just saying.  :dunno_black:

Yup, I've been Googling away... stud pullers are hideously expensive so the only way one of those is being used is if I pay a professional to do it.

I think I'm going to sand the paint back and persevere with the hot glue method, but I'll dodgy up a slide hammer attachment for the bits using that swingarm shaft I reckon. If I can get those creased bits out then the rest in theory should move a lot easier...

Oh they cooling fins!! I thought he had a shiny new grill plate for the BBQ!!  ;)

peteGS

Air/oil cooled all the way!!!!

But if you get stuck in too much traffic in the middle of summer they could certainly double as a grill...
