It's interesting how 'advances in technology' work sometimes. . At work our old garbage trucks were emptied by means of external body mounted control levers, you turn up at tip, jump out and operate controls and get back in then away you go!...

the new trucks (couple months old now) have gee whizz in-cab touch screen tipping controls. .. "there ya go boys no more tramping around in the crud at the tip" ...

except that there are safety props that are mounted to the door lift hydraulic rams, they hinge at the bottom and point upwards.... (you have to pull a lockpin and lower them when any repair work is done on back with door up. Prevents crush injuries if hydraulic valves fail etc) ....

So when you push a full load out with the gee whizz cab controls now, bits of garbage and bags get hooked on the tips of the safety props...  we aren't allowed to travel on road with 'loose garbage' that might pollute environment .... so you have to get out and clear the hanging garbage bits with a shovel (comes with truck for 'spills') ...

The old trucks had safety props too but mounted on main body and swung around into lock position. .. but never got fouled with garbage!

I'm always glad when the bosses remind us we have these new $300k trucks that are cleaner to work with! ... Bahahaha ;)

At least your guys clean the "spills" up, the trash companies around here just leave it everywhere. . . If they empty the dumpster, they leave any loose debris laying everywhere, and you can track the route of the truck by looking for the trail of debris. . .
It seems in our part of Florida, the further you get from the depot, the less they give a damn. . . :2guns:

Yeah it can happen they get too complacent on their runs.... so ringing their supervisor each time helps, supervisors hate being dragged away from their Tetris or Minesweeper games!

Don't be angry on the phone tho! ... be annoyed certainly! .. but an angry rant is just going to drag things out further!

A mild approach will get you much further almost always according to my experience  :thumb:

Only way to go ShowBiz!  :thumb:

I really need to pull my finger out and get going on the Kat again... work is exhausting me at the moment and by the time I get home I can't bring myself to do much more than play games on my phone... sad really.

I must get into it tonight!

omg... could you imagine... how productive we would all be and how many projects we'd finish if it wasn't for that pesky thing called work? ?

How dare it... eating up all our time like that. Smh... it's so true. My car would have been done, my van would be fixed up, the things I'd like to experiment with on the GS would be done, my basement bathroom would be done... ugh but we needz the money money money !! $$$$

The grim truth. I know for me, since I'm unemployed, its getting away from the internet and dividing my attention between my bike and other projects. . . :technical:

Pete, there was an advert on my fb... one of the bike mags is doing a Kat cover story or similar coming up next issue?

peteGS

Yeah that four letter word "work"... always gets in the way!!!!

I did at least stand in the shed for a while last night... it was actually productive though, working out the best way to go about making the fibreglass mould for the seat and tail piece. I'm going to attempt making a one piece fibreglass seat/tailpiece so I can get it registered as a single seater as that seriously reduces registration costs here and is the only way I can justify having two bikes registered at the same time.

Yes Indeed ShowBiz, we need those $$$$!!!

Janxy, there is apparently an article on the Katana 35th anniversary in Australian Motorcycle News this issue. I haven't bought it for ages (used to be a staple) but I think I'll be getting me a copy of this one  :thumb:

It's rainin again... was all set for a light 15km  dusk ride along lake foreshore on the MTB , charged my Cree bike lamp battery up, got my gear together. .  And from the house to the end of the road it went all biblical!! .. I don't mind some light showers but when it's that hard and heavy that it sounds like white noise on the helmet I draw the line!...

I was lucky tho, mate that was gonna meet me at the start point was about 1.5km from home when it started. .. I only had to sprint back 150m! ...

Didn't even look like it was gonna drop! .  Sure clouds were heavy but quite high and moving along..  now it's just steady big drops..  rain radar tells me it's not worth trying later.

Ah well .. trackpants, dry shirt and slippers on the lounge for a cuppa and grilled cheese will do nicely! :thumb:
