Ok now I'm even more lost  :icon_lol: :dunno_black:

Went and watched a mate run in his two recently completed track bikes yesterday... ah the sights sounds and smells of the race track! Haven't been out for years... old singles, modern fours, methanol, two stroke... mmmmmm

Mmmmm rich exhaust fumes.... Hot rubber.... The shriek of bouncing off the rev limiter as they fang down the main straight!.... Bliss!

Ah right! now I got it  :thumb:

I found a piece of PVC pipe the exact right size for the fork seals and the copper washers for the damper rod bolts showed up during the week so I was able to finish the forks off yesterday.

Pretty happy with the end result, nice and clean and tidy.

And I remembered to the do the fork caps as well.

Cheers guys!!!! (and gal  :icon_mrgreen:)

Thinking I need to make myself a bit of a mini press to get the swingarm shock bushes out... they're quite stuck!!

ive used heat via propane  or a hotplate, and a socket thats the size or a hair smaller than the bushings, heat up and pound them out. or jerry rig a press out of some tubing and a 1 ton hydraulic jack . but heat helps ALOT.

Yeah it's looking like heat is the way forward... and maybe a mini press. Found a couple of Youtube ideas using a good old car bottle jack that I might be able to whack together. Not sure if I have one around here or not, but Supercheap have a 4000kg one on sale for $35 at the moment.

I've got a perfectly sized socket to suit the outside of the bushes, but so far using that with a large socket for the back side all I've managed to do is bend the arm on the vice when trying to press it out and break the bolt I used threaded through it all to try to do the same thing. They're stuck pretty good!!

maybe heat (via hotplate?) then the socket. SHOULD do the job. had to use heat to press valve guides out of a harley head. (put on hotplate for MAYBE  a half hour then press. btw i know i dont have to tell you but wear gloves for this . ( ask me how i learned that one lol)

Hahahaha yeah gloves are a must!!!

The torch will be ok for the heat, just gotta keep the direct flame away from the rubber.

House mate reckons he has a bottle jack around somewhere... handy if he does and I can find some scrap steel and make me a mini press...

Would a disc brake cylinder pusher thingy work? .. Only small but they provide a fair bit of force and..  If you line it up well... the force goes just where its needed!?

or a jerry rigged contraption   involving heat a socket, and perhaps 2 sockets? and a fairly large c clamp? idk lol been there. ingenuity born out of necessity Eh? lol. i still swear by the use of a hotplate. although once used for this. probably not advisable to use for cooking lol.

Nice thought Janxy as yes they certainly do put some force out, but it's not going to have enough throw unfortunately. I'm sure if you were smart you could wangle something to get it to push a longer throw shaft or something, but I'm not that clever...

I hear ya Yama, but I've got a good idea in my head on how to go about it now, just need to get some U section steel, a bit of square steel tube, some threaded rod, round tube to go around the threaded rod, and a bottle jack... I reckon it'd be quite the handy press too!

Hahahaha I knew that would bring someone out of the woodwork!!

Re-assembled the basic roller yesterday and did a quick and dirty check for straightness with a spirit level... all good  :thumb: :thumb: :woohoo:

Cleaned up the wheels, I rekcon they'll be right without a paint job, so that's a bit less work to do.

And I picked up some steel, threaded rod, etc. to make a press so I can get the shocky bushes out of the swingarm.

Pretty productive day I reckon!

Very productive indeed! Yes those wheels look mighty nice the way they are :thumb:

I like your "Bench N'Vice" :D I have one too but it's Black and Decker's version called the Workmate. They are soooooo nice to have!
