I like your optimism  :icon_mrgreen:

Got all my nuts and bolts yesterday and my cheap eBay discs showed up as well ($50 for the pair) and they seem pretty good for the price.

The plan for this weekend is to get the lid made for the storage box (as per Janxy's cool idea), get the rubber edging on the electrics tray, and get as many as possible of the trays/brackets/etc. that just got painted mounted up permanently.

As long as by the end of the weekend I have room in the shed to set the workbench up to start working on the fibreglass repairs on the front cowl I'll be a happy chappy.  :thumb:

The big things left to do are... (there are many little things to do yet too of course)

Bodywork repairs and paint
Lower crankcase repair where a post for a cam chain guide support has broken off
Motor painting (yeah sounds simple, won't be quick or easy)
Crankshaft truing
Engine build

We'll have to wait and see if June next year is a realistic goal or not... time wise it probably is, money wise is the big question...

Indeed. Off season helps for major mechanical. Ideally winter would haveworked for cow assy.  But since it began this summer it went quicker lol.  Here's hoping all goes well with your build. My job is prettymuch done except for acquiring the few remaining bits :)

The cow is nearly cooked  :icon_razz: :icon_mrgreen:

Put Janxy's plan into action yesterday, seemed to work out ok. I need to tidy up the edges a little yet and had to bend the sides in a little further so it's a nice friction fit but I think it'll do just fine  :thumb:

And while I had the heat gun out I moulded some U channel to shape for the electrics tray. Just need to stick it in place today.

We are indeed! Slowly but surely  :thumb:

Spoke to a man about a horse while out riding yesterday morning... should be taking the tank up to his place tomorrow night for a better set of eyes on the issue.

In the meantime, today is going to partly be trying to replace the microswitches in the Acewell on the 450 after they died due to failing O rings and water ingress and then I hope to be looking at repairing the front cowl on the Kat and maybe even getting a start on laying down some fibreglass towards making my mate his solo Kat seat as part payment for the tank and other bits he's given me.

The issue with the Acewell seems to be what I'd almost call a design flaw in the 2853 models. The lip of the chrome bezel allows water to pool when sitting out in the rain, and so when the O rings age and don't seal so well, that allows water to seep in when the pool of water is deep enough to partly submerge the buttons. I'm still happy with the gauge and find this to be more of an inconvenience, but on the Kat I'll be using a 3701 (I think) which is one of their more rectangular gauges and has no bezel to allow water to pool.

i wonder if some type of siilicone sealer along with the orings, might  have prevented or delayed this?

I thought about some sort of silicone... the issue is around still letting the buttons move enough to hit the micro switches. They're pretty tiny too, outside diameter is something like 2.8mm...

Moved on to the front cowl repair finally, broken/cracked bits cut out and started sanding back the paint and cracked gel coat... I really need some more aggresive paper though! 80 is not enough...

And I should be taking the tank up for another set of eyes to give it a look-see tonight hopefully...

armor all or 3 in 1 oil, or even thinner, waatchmakers oil. applied sparingly ;) keeps the  rubbers lubricated.

True... although knowing me I'd put too much on and it'd be dripping onto the micro switches and circuit board...

Got my tank up for a look-see last night, see what he comes back with after he has a play and talks to his people.

40 grit paper is much better... but still tedious... might end up leaving the sanding until I can break out the power tools and make some noise yet...

Untitled by starpoint73, on Flickr

Should be ready to break the matting and resin out tonight and make a mould...
