Errrr thanks CBR... I think? :D That's a big butt!

Nice to see you getting some air Yama!! Feel free to keep posting up  :icon_mrgreen: :thumb:

Lack of thread locker solved yesterday and got those couple of bits installed along with the left hand side shift drum bearing... froze the two bearings to shrink them and heated the case up to expand it, but apparently not enough. I still had to drift the left hand bearing in, although with not a lot of force at least.

The right hand bearing stopped a couple of mm's in (no drifting on that one, it's fragile!) so I gently got it back out with no damage and back in the freezer again.

I'll try again with more heat, and I cobbled together some steel, wood, and the old bearing as a bit of a press to pull it into place if it doesn't drop in easily again.

No pic's coz there didn't seem much point... will share when it's done though ;)

Oh, and picking up my crankshaft this morning!!  :woohoo:

Supposed to be getting second gear pressed on and maybe welded on Sunday which will let me finish getting the gearbox in. Fingers crossed that works out!

Well... never unloaded a truck but makes sense :D

I've gotta pause and take stock real soon, need to figure out what's next in the order of things to do as I need to start being careful about what I spend money on, the fund is just about dead until next pay day.

I need to start working out... do I buy paint for the cylinders/head/covers or gaskets... things like that.

i think if you must cut corners on anything, nothing in engine. Can engine be painted after assy?

Oh! No, no corners will be being cut  :thumb:

It's simply a matter of prioritising what gets purchased ahead of other things... pointless getting gaskets if I'm not ready to assemble the motor... and yes I *could* paint the motor once assembled, but that would make it so much harder to prep all the nooks and crannies compared with having it separated, so I'll do it while apart.

That's not going to delay anything, shelling out the hard earned is going to cause the delays sooner rather than later.

I've still got plenty to do right now that is time and effort so it's not stalled yet thankfully  :woohoo:

Second gear is on but not welded yet, have to go see someone else about that hopefully on Wednesday.

And some other random bottom end pic's of stuff going together...

Need to make a phone call about the welding today, hope they can sort it for me!

Did some sums with what's left to procure... yeah gonna hit stalling point real soon and it'll just be a month by month thing for quite a while now. I hope I'm wrong but my sums say another 12 months  :dunno_black:

Love seeing some engine work.  People are good to post a build until they get to engine work and then it falls off.  Me included.
  Thanks for sharing pete!  fantabulous!

Any time CBR!  :thumb:

I tend to post too much if anything, but I know exactly what you mean. I've seen many threads go from lots of updates of progress and then suddenly a motor is built. If you've never done one before or are doing the same type it's certainly helpful to see what others encounter along the way, especially when it comes to assembly of things like gearboxes where there's many moving parts.

The countershaft went in the freezer last night and I'll sneak the other bearing into the oven tonight so it should press on nice and easy, then the countershaft can go in the top case with the driveshaft and I can test fit the cases together and make sure it shifts nicely  :thumb:

Hahaha love it Yama  :thumb:

I stuck the other bearing for the countershaft in the oven for 10 minutes tonight, grabbed the countershaft out of the freezer, and the bearing literally just dropped in place. Way too easy!  :thumb: :woohoo:

Untitled by starpoint73, on Flickr

I test fitted the lower case on the upper case and all went nice and smooth, however she just doesn't want to change gears via the shift lever  :technical:

If I rotate the drum directly by hand it shifts, but not via the shifting shaft and cam on the end of the drum. I suspect I've done something not quite right during assembly but hoping one of the Kat gurus will be able to give me some good tips or point out something obvious I'm missing.
