OK. We see dumb things all  the time. So often I wonder why we continue with antiquated procedures and stuff.

Here's one for today:

When photography came out, indoor flash pictures were really annoying. So courts did not allow photographs and had court appointed artists.
Well, for quite a while taking pictures can be totally silent. In fact you can mount a camera in a hat or your glasses.

So why do we still prohibit photos and still have court artists doing crappy sketches?

(OK, I know not all courts, but I saw the "sketch artist picture" in the paper yesterday for some high profile trial.)

What have you seen that is dumb, stupid and way behind the times?

Maybe not totally stupid but i laugh at it.

So my buddy scraps for a living and he got a deal to clean out an old warehouse. Well it turns out they used to make computer boards for any electronic you can think of. Now youd think that a place that makes anything you need for computers could make their own or had money to buy some right? Well they had about a dozen computers, but more than one room full of filing cabnets. On top of that, they still used floppy discs when they shut down in 2009-2010!!!

No wonder they went bankrupt.

This is easy:

A postal service that's $16 Billion in the hole, and congress STILL wants Saturday delivery.
In Michigan, a woman must have permission from her husband before she cuts her hair (old law).
I have an 80/20 loan on my mortgage.  Go to refinance.  Combined, I'm declined.  Separated, debt to equity ratio OK to refinance.
Emissions tests that ONLY look at SES lights on 1996+ cars.
DMVs that look to see if you have insurance only right now...not yesterday, or this evening, only right now.
Endless stupid disclaimers like on coffee, and "no hot ashes" on my trash can, or "For off-road competition only."
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Postal service is in the hole because congress is trying to put them out of business.

If your partner has a disqualifying event in her history (forclosure, short sale) he or she will be detrimental to your loan application. Regardless, it's better to file without a co-signer if you can afford it - that way if your house goes underwater, only one credit history will be ruined.

Dunno about your state. In CA, if your insurance lapses, the DMV is notified and your registration automatically expires.

Lawyers. :)

Burning...My wife was victim of identity theft.  Took FOUR YEARS to clean up.  I know all about that.

Thankfully, not underwater, just not the ideal 80% debt-to-equity ratio for refinancing.  Ohio didn't get hit as hard as California, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida in the housing bubble.

That reminds me, i have heard that a township nearby has an old law where women cant wear makeup without a license.

I live near a county that cant open any business's on sundays and if you do then the business will be heavily fined.....but yet the gov wants us to spend money and use our tax returns...makes a bunch of sense

Well my best guess would be because having anyone and everyone pointing things at a jury Judge and the guy on trial would drive court security bat shaZam! nuts. Also people tent to forget where they are when taking pictures and get in the way of the trail by causing a distraction.

But these days you can be in the back with a silent camera and zoom lens. Meh - I think it is antiquated thinking on the part of senior citizen judges. You can wear a spy cam and no one would see it.

back in the day we didn't have media like we have today, so the flash distraction would have been valid then.  now we have instant media, the issue is not being able to identify the innocent until proven guilty.  it prevents vigilante justice as the court drawing/sketch is usually not enough to definitively identify someone.

I really wish I could put her in contact with my wife. I still can't convince my wife that it's important to shred any personally identifying information...

Funny...I'm a compliance auditor for a living.

Hurts when it happens to you.

Non issue. Its public record as soon as you get charged right or wrong. Also unless you get a attorney and spend the cash that "wrongful" charge will always be there. There is no protecting the Innocent if your charged your fair game.

Just some back ground I'm from North FL and work in and around  the courts and get to see how these things work on a pretty regular basis and on high profile cases due to going on high risk transports.
