Low beam during the day, high beam at night... when the high beam decides it wants to work that is!

I should really fix that  :embarrassed:

I got pulled over by a cop at night a couple months back because he thought I had my high beam on. I didn't. He said I did.  :cookoo:

I'm starting to get a little confused here... and I hope its not a major noob moment for me, but here it goes...

Is there another setting I'm missing?  I have Hi-beam switch.  It just goes on and off, thats it... Otherwise the running light is always on, no matter what.  But if that running light is what folks are calling low beam, then HOW in the world does that light anything up to ride in the dark?!

Me: Hi Beam all the time, because nothing else lights up other than the running light... which does nothing but make me scratch my head, wondering why it is even there.

By running light do you mean the parking light? If it is only high beam that works I think your low beam filament in your bulb may be blown. Have you tried replacing it?

Running Lights = Parkers
Low Beam = Low Beam for driving in day or night (plenty bright enough for night)
High Beam = High Beam for road with no oncoming cars for better vision at night
I am not interested in anything you have to say

Okay, so there is supposed to be a Hi AND a Low Beam...

So how am I supposed to switch between Hi and Low?  Because right now, no button gives me a Low beam.

Its the switch on the left controls.
If your low beam is not bright enough for night then maybe your bulb is a dud and needs replacing?

Thanks Coda.

So apparently my Low Beam filament is burnt out... since I got the bike.  Noob moment   :embarassed:

... NOW all that headlight when starting stuff makes sense!  I was always like, 'huh, mine is an '04 and doesn't have that feature... but headlight is not on unless I turn it on, so whatever...' LOL

I might it leave it tho, since my '04 doesn't turn off the headlight when starting if I replace it..
But then if my Hi beam goes out, I have nothing...

Small dilemma  :dunno_black:

LOL to this buddy.  The high beam indicator light wasn't a clue that something was wrong?  :)  Sounds like something I would do...  It took me over a year to realize that the PO of my bike had removed the clutch safety switch.  I'll be totally lost if I ever get a bike that I have to pull the clutch in to start.  I always just make sure I'm in neutral, or pull the clutch if I'm not.

It's actually illegal to run without a light on even during the day in Illinois (maybe the whole US?).  Definitely get that bulb replaced ASAP.

Lol, I guess I just read hi beam indicator as headlight indicator, haha.  Always ride with Hi beam anyway, but I guess I'll just replace it... I don't want to be caught without anything at all if Hi beam goes out.

My original stock headlight was crap... 35/35w bulb... WTF? High beam was just a second filament and the only way I could get a replacement was from Suzuki... crap! It blew a few times because the plastic housing was so worn it would unseat itself and vibrate around, causing the filament to blow.

I replaced it with a generic H4 setup during the rebuild and low beam is plenty everywhere now. I very rarely have a need for high beam... if I pull up behind someone in traffic in the daytime, I can very easily see my low beam reflected in their paintwork etc.

Sorry Mate I Didn't See Ya.

I always say it in an Australian accent, since I first heard the term in this YouTube video:

Cool vid, I must say I am one of those riders who did not believe in the whole loud exhaust saves lives either. Now my bike has a loud exhaust and I must say I am noticed ALOT more than I was on my gs500 with stock exhaust.

Did anyone notice the high percentage of GS500's in that video?  :thumb:

make sure you call your public SERVANTS on every single issue and flex your rights... while you're doing that too.

last thing we need are a bunch of checkpoints and homeland insecurity thinking they actually matter.
