I did a frame swap on the bike a few months ago-its a 2009 Gs 500 with a 2005 frame! first bike-love her to bits. sold the car and now ive only got the bike. bought some luggage for her the other day and this is what she looks like now. I cant wait to start doing some longer trips-thinking about a round australia, but will be in a year or so.

Looks really nice. Could you post links to the bags or note what they are/who makes them?

Any plans to paint the tank to match the fairings or vice versa?

Looks great! I actually like the black tank.

Looks good, but I think you have the saddle bags on the wrong sides.  The taller part should be at the front, the lower back corner is cut off to clear higher sport bike exhausts.  And the opening flap should be at the back so that wind doesn't inflate the bags like balloons while riding.

I didn't even notice the off color tank at first because it matches the luggage so nicely.

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

ThatOtherGuy

the saddlebags look like Oxford brand.  they're great bags, got two 60litre ones myself, never used them in anger myself as I had the accident soon after buying them, but I did lend them to a friend who loved them.  and yes they are on backwards.

one suggestion is to put them on the correct sides, then load them up and go for a ride to make sure they do not sag into exhaust. :thumb:

Not that it looks bad the way it is. Just curious about any future plans OP has for this fine specimen.

Hey all,
Wow glad you guys think she looks good.

To start with-Thanks for letting me know the paniers were on back to front!

My luggage is Oxford strap on tank bag, oxford first time panniers(48L capacity) and an Rjays elite tail bag!

the bags zip up.....and the tail bag opening does open from the front so not sure what you were getting at there!

In regards to the tank being "off colour", i bought the bike with the current tank for $1200AUD and had to swap the frame out due to it being "Written off". For the moment I'm keeping the tank as is-its my first bike, and i plan to use it, thats what its meant for right!
Myself and a mate have a trip planned from Brisbane to Alice Spings in august so the gear will get a real work out hopefully!

Alex

someone wrote it wrong. I am on mobile so can't see the bags that great. Opening should face behind bike. The "hinge" should face front. This way wind keeps them closed, should you ever ride off with it unzipped.

Nice set up.
And right now, I'm cursing my Ventura soft panniers...god, they fit crappy plastic yes-I'll-pop-at-the-first--opportunity zips on them! Be advised......

peteGS

They the Oxford 1st Time saddlebags? I use them on the commute every day... they're pretty good and the expansion comes in well.

You definitely have them the wrong way 'round :)

These are a bit old now but all I have with the bags on when I first got them...

I have the red inserts in mine:

Yup i switched them round that day! Felt like a massive Wan***!

I found the inserts didn't fit well so i left them out.

Haha don't worry, we've all been there done that at some point... the inserts fit fairly neatly in mine I found but it's only cosmetic...
