The manual says that the CB shaft should be marked A, B or C.  Mine have no markings on them at all, just a 3 stamped into the shaft.  Should I just go by the engine case code diagram for the CB shell bearings?

Look in the back of the motor. The part that would be facing the swingarm.
Cool.

OK, that's what I figured.  Somehow I got the idea that there was a letter etched on the CB shaft like the number 1 or 2 on the rod caps.

Wait, I just looked at the Factory Shop Manual illustration P3-37 again and it clearly shows that the Counter Balance Shaft should have a letter on it, A, B or C which makes sense because all the codes are a combination of the inner journal diameter and the outer shaft diameter.  You need both.  My Counter Balance shaft has no A, B or C markings.  WTF!

You said there is a "3".  Maybe that's a "B"?

Nope, it's a 3, and anyhow, the Counter Balance shaft is supposed to have printed letters, not stamped numbers.

Then I suppose you will have to measure the OD of the CB shaft journals.  So if it is 31.976-31.984mm it is "C".
