Engine swap woes.

I swapped a 2004 engine on a 2001 frame but the bike does not run (engine starts, but does not stay running)

Things done:
Got new spark plugs
Added an oil cooler (did not know the new engine needed it  )
Fixed the initial oil leak in the oil cooler with some liquid gasket
Charged the battery to make sure there is enough charge
Got the ignition rotor and timing from the old engine and put it on the new one
Got new exhaust gaskets

The problem: Bike still does not run. When the ignition in switched on, the bike tries to start but it keeps on turning (as if the battery was low). Once, with the choke on, it started, but did not run. I had to give it some gas and it stayed running for maybe 30 seconds (with the throttle on).

Any ideas? Does the ideal RPM knob need to be adjusted? The carbs were working for the old engine. Do they need to be redone? The battery has been sitting for 5 months. I got the battery 2 years ago. I ran it constantly for a whole year. The bike sat around for 8 months, and then I used it a few times, and then it sat around again for 5 months. Nevertheless, the bike is turning over, so I don't think it is the battery..

Carbs need cleaning.

What about the Oil cooler? Im installing an 09 into my 01. Do I have to install an oil cooler? Or can I bypass it?

Check and make sure you have a spark on both cylinders. Then check for fuel. As said above, take off and clean out the carbs really good.
