01/02 model gas tank

Hi guys,

I got a rusty gas tank on my 02 gs500. Will do the por-15 treatment if necessary, but would rather get a replacement. Anyone know if a 2004 and later model gas tanks are compatible with my model?

They sure are!  01+ are all the same tank, just different paint color is all.

Is it so rusty that it leaks or has weak spots? If it's just a little surface rust, why not clean it out?

It doesn't leak, but I was told rust will keep coming back if the tank is not treated. It appears to be a lot of rust, after sitting 3 years with an almost empty tank.
