Judge for yourself if this was me I would have instantly fixated on the car guy did a good job trying to avoid it. As for ABS, it maybe would have scrubbed off a bit more speed but at that distance who knows what the outcome might have been if abs was in the picture.

Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

99 times out of 100 ABS can only help the situation, although not by much in this case. The car was barely in the oncoming lane. Here he could have avoided hitting the car by steering left, but there was no way he could have known for sure the car was going to stop. It seems to have turned out okay. Everything is on video and nobody was hurt.

With all the videos of people crashing on that road, I think it is a good one to avoid.

i think he did fixate on the car? ... lucky he wasnt moving a lot faster to start with!! .. it looked like he was gonna miss with his initial swerve left.. then the car stopped ... and 'i think' the rider stopped reacting a little for avoidance.... just hit the brakes .. locked the rear and halved his braking effort ?

.... as for ABS? ... dunno .. maybe a little... he was DAMN close to the car when the tyre squeal began.. as good as ABS is reported to be from the believers .. it still needs TIME to work? .. you still have to allow for mass and inertia and distance i think?!

It looked like he fixated on the car. When the car came to a stop, it maybe had 1 wheel in the oncoming lane--the rider had all sorts of space to swerve into, but instead panicked and locked up the front brake, only to let off and try to swerve a little too late. Videos like this are a great reminder to practice emergency braking and swerving, and of course keep your head up and avoid target fixation.

Twisted

They had to pull out in front of a beautiful GT1000 didn't they  :icon_rolleyes:. Guy was lucky it wasn't an old car with a metal bumper. As for ABS helping I think it was the sound of the bikes screeching tyres that stopped the car from pulling right across in front of him.

Imbeciles. Complete, f%$king, imbeciles. Car was in the wrong, end of story. They were in both lanes, sideways, and clearly unable to maneuver their vehicle correctly. I'm really surprised the motorcyclist wasn't more angry. I would've been livid.

Cool it, buddy. Nobody is saying the driver isn't in the wrong, we're simply discussing the actions of the rider. Avoidance is a big part of riding, and to not be prepared for the stupidity of such drivers is to do yourself a great injustice.

I know that. Watching the video made me angry because of how many times I've encountered this level of complete incompetence. Right or wrong, it really twists my gears that so many complete morons are allowed to have a license to operate something that can endanger so many people.

Agreed. it was a pretty hard lick considering the corollas bumper cover was taken off. wonder if this was covered in some thread on some forum somewhere.  would like to learn more.

Let's be fair...that bike is a tank compared to modern plastic cars. The bike didn't even look damaged! LOL
