What's the best K&N or sock type air filter setup and what jets?

After rebuilding my motor and finding that the air cleaner box simply wouldn't fit back in properly, I was wondering what the normal conversion to aftermarket air filters is and how much richer on the main jet I'd have to go.

The factory stock oem jets with the stock air cleaner element have worked best for me for 14 years and 175,000 GS500 miles.
