I am just curious what everyone here has run into or had run into them while on your bike? Prefer to hear the stories that didnt take you down, but lets hear em either way.

Just got to thinking of this recently when I took a couple hundred mile trip and had an orange barrel fly out in front of me. I didnt hit it thankfully.

I had a chicken run into my foot - luckily I was only going about 30mph and didn't even flinch. Never had the chance get to that punch line...... :)

Grasshoppers, cicadas, pebbles, etc. I'm an ATGATT rider, but a mesh jacket only takes the sting off when something hits you in the chest.

Took a cicada to the neck at ~65mph the other day. I only know that because it left a cicada-shaped welt and some juice.

errrrr ... Mach 1 ?!??!  :icon_rolleyes: :icon_twisted:

... but really... 4 foot piece of falling treebranch about 2" thick , across the right shoulder and chest , speed about 50km/h on a dirtbike ... that hurt!

... an electric fence.... that hurt! ... and the superman move into the blackberry bush after the bike stopped and i didnt wasnt cool either..

.. a seagull .. sort of... it zig-zagged right at the last moment and bounced from screen to barely the top edge of my helmet... more shat myself than hurt

... a 3' round fallen tree in long grass while being a fool and chasing kangaroos on a dirtbike... actually got the front wheel to lift over it and hit the engine/case on the log... huge ugly bounce over the other side and fairly soft landing into more grass and dust ... cricked my neck a little .. lucky..

a golf ball .... there is a golf club not far from me with a small public access road through the middle... about 4 vehicles a week get hit by golf balls in summer.. most of the players watch out for cars and avoid taking a shot... but it still happens .. i got hit in the side of helmet .. not hurt but thought the CRACK noise was a small bomb! ...  :icon_eek:

... thats about it for major stuff!  :thumb:

I got pegged in the neck by a June bug going about 60 as I went to check my blind spot. It welted lol.

And then there was the mailbox that ate my headlight... I don't like talking about that one...

This one isn't necessarily me or the bike running into something, but I left a nice boot-sized dent on a Lexus SUV once. I'm not proud of it at all, but it definitely brought to light the importance of spacing and escape routes.
I was commuting to school on a local highway (PA 581) at around 9 in the morning. Traffic was moving around 55, and was extremely tight. Some guy decided to pull into the left lane in front of me. Okay, fine, be that guy. I started to back off. Then, this lady in a Lexus starts drifting over. There's the guy that cut me off ahead of me, and a car riding my rear tire, so I have nowhere to go. I look over and lay on my horn. She's on her cell phone and doesn't hear me, and continues over. I'm about a foot away from the concrete median at this point, so I did the only thing I could think of: a swift kick with my steel toes, leaving a nice dent in her new Lexus. She just about crapped herself.

I promptly continued to school and changed my underdrawers.

Oh! And then there was the lightning bug that I hit coming home from a night class once. That left a pretty glowing streak on my visor for a while lol.

#1 - Had an early start. Tossed up swapping the clear visor instead of the tinted. Said "stuff it" and left the tinted one on. After all, what debris could I hit on a highway, right? Oh, just a piece of 4x2 flicked up from my front tire, slammed into my foot and drove it back off the peg. Ouch!

#2 - Sitting on 120 leptons. A Busa went screaming past. Threw up a rock which smashed into the end of my finger. Figured it had split open the end of my finger it hurt so much, but I kept riding anyway.

#3 - Bird just below my right collarbone.

#4 - Bird into my throttle hand.

#5 - Sitting on 110, bike going the other way flicked up a rock which smacked into my throat. Broke skin, drew blood.

#6 - Sitting at a set of lights waiting to turn right. Car driving straight through tossed empty beer bottle at me WTF :o >:(. It smashed on my mirror

#7 - Some kind of large bug that hit so hard it took a small chunk out of my visor, like a rock might do.

#8 - Ran over a snake

#9 - didn't run over a koala....

2 snakes about 15 years apart and an alligator are about the worst things I have seen by the road, ran over neither ... I may not have run over anything on a bike thankfully ... caught plenty of bugs in evert conceivable location. There would be days after commuting and erranding in CA back when I used to live there, the bike would look like a beehive.

Cool.

1.) A freaking OWL!  ... not as cool or scary as it sounds though... truck in front of me hit it, owl soared up and over like a shopping bag, said owl's wing brushed my right leg as I lightly steered out of the way.  There was plenty of time for everything to happen without much adrenaline involved.

2.) Foot peg clipped a snapping turtle with an outstretched neck.  Riding through wetlands area, and had the bike leaned over on an S-curve.  About to scrape peg when I saw the obstruction so I widened up my path to avoid it, and the darn thing lurched out!  Scared the mess out of me... thought it snapped my rubber from my peg or something, but apparently I just barely hit it.

3.) This one is just a near miss, didn't hit them but very close.  Riding two up with my fiancĂ©, down the busiest road in our city...  All the sudden, 6 wild turkey are hustled out in the street directly in front of me... WTF?? where did they come from?!?!  I'll never know, but 10 feet separated me and the lead turkey before we got stopped.

... Also have some crazy things I've seen while riding which could be related, but that's probably for another thread! LOL

I hit a 4 x 4 block of wood about 18" long.  My fault, from following a car too closely.

Then there was the raccoon that tried to cross the road with me going about 60mph.  His buddy was smaller and faster and he made it.  The slow fat one either hit my front wheel and got clobbered by the frame/rear wheel or I ran over his head with the front tire.  Either way - dead.

I hit a part of a sofa on the highway.  Long and short of it was... It was late a night, a cop with lights on under an overpass, he jumps out and starts wildly flailing his arms, I slowed down to around 50 and all of a sudden busted parts of sofa are all over the road.  Not sure what I hit, but the bike settled down and kept going.

I called DPS and found out who the cop was and left a big thank you message on his voicemail.

3 things so far, aside from the usual one or two bugs and stuff.

1: A whole friggin' SWARM of f%$king bees. At 120ish kph. I thought my jacket would keep me safe, but those little bastards can sting for days after their arse has gone through their head.

2: A Galah. For those who don't know what that is, picture it as one of those heatable wheat bags with wings. They f%$king HURT when you slam one thats been hanging around the grain silos all day. Found out the next day I cracked a rib hitting it.

3: I had some drunk smash a bottle over my head shortly after I started riding. Called me a "Stupid Motorcycle C@&^!" and slammed me in the head with an empty bottle of scotch. Helmet saved me. Also got arrested for assault until the cops got CCTV footage of what happened and believed my self defense accusation. Broke the drunks jaw and nose.

I must say though, the funniest thing I've seen someone hit was one of my friends. Someone pulled up way to quick in front of him in a lowered Hilux Ute. There was no tray on the Hilux. My friend ended up not being able to stop, but managed to perch his front wheel up and launch his bike into the tray of the ute in front. The look on the drivers face was f%$king priceless.
