Best Choice for Motorcycle Insurance

I believe my gs is finally road ready.. This is my first bike. First step is getting her insured... What is the best choice for motorcycle insurance? Any advice is much appreciated

Location plays a major role in it......along with other factors. There's just no real way to compare insurance from the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, etc.. Same goes with your age, driving history, and the like.

My best advice: contact local agents from different providers. I switched from Progressive to State Farm and paid $50 more per year, but for ten times better coverage.

mmm yes... location is important...

.. and ... "at the computer" will not help  ;) :flipoff:

I personally use Progressive. They seem to offer much better rates than Geico for motorcycles. mid $100s to low $200 a year should be enough for full coverage.

Note: I have taken the MSEP, I've been riding for almost 10 years, no speeding tickets, the bike is for commuting (who picks "for pleasure" during insurance applications anyway?) and I live in Hawaii. All are factors in determining premiums.

Been with Progressive for several years now and satisfied with them so far.  Only pay $75 per year for 100/300/50 with comprehensive and uninsured coverage included.  No collision, drop that after bike is old with high mileage.  Your cost will depend on age, location, driving record, and maybe credit record, many ins companies check that too now.  You can get online quote from Progressive and many others now to get started.

I'm with Jack. Have a rate right there with him here in NY. Really need to call around. I know the company that does my house and car, DO NOT insure bikes...so that's something to look at too.

I'm a newly-endorsed rider, and just shopped around a bit. Geico is very expensive (an my other policies are with them). Allstate was slightly cheaper. Progressive was 1/2 the price of Allstate with better coverage. I did not check statefarm but i may ;)

progressive was my choice down here in Tx,....super cheap,...my pita f2 and gs are just over a hundred for the whole year,...139,...something like that

Almost everyone agrees...

Progressive is 1st choice for motorcycle insurance!

And like someone else said, you can get a quote online. If you don't like the number that shows up, just adjust your coverage and see how the different things affect your premium. Heck, you can also look up premiums on other bikes to see how they compare.

As for payment, when I did it about a year ago, I simply used my online quote and bought insurance immediately. Then they sent the cards in the mail within 3 biz days or so. Then just keep your cards (they're just paper printouts) in your wallet or in your travel pack/backpack.

And don't forget to buy tow insurance! Definitely an inexpensive must-have!

also, don't forget UM/UIM. If someone runs you off the road, and they have 15/30k, that won't cover much of anything

Well since I haven't established credit and never had insurance everyone's rate were high for me.. I ended up going with progressive I pay a little over 32 dollars a month.. But do any of you guys recommend getting coverage for the motorcycle itself?

for a new rider on a relatively cheap bike i can't imagine that it's cost effective.

I also use Progressive. Like they said, more coverage for the buck. Did you happen to take the MSF course? In New York, if you took the MSF course you get a discount on insurance for the first year. Some riders were in that class that could already ride, just to get the insurance discount.

Sorry. I made a mistake and need to clarify. When I had my GS500F I had Progressive. Now that I have a GSXR 1000 (classified as a super sports bike) I have Geico

I cry every time I hear what americans pay in car/motorcycle insurance. I'm 25, clean record, garage kept, safe neighbourhood, single rider household, lowest coverage, motorcycle safety course, and I pay $1192 a year for my GS. And that was BY FAR the cheapest I could find. most quotes I got were above $3000.

Most of what you guys pay a year, I pay per month. Disgusting...

Sounds like you just need to move here. The savings in insurance alone would pay for the relocation in no time ;)

Why do you own a vehicle at all!!? Good god man....it usually takes a few DWI's and some crashes for us to get that high! I mean...my car insurance for BOTH cars and the bike only comes to 1/2 that in a year. You should definitely come here. We need more GS riders to hang with!
