I sold one of my 06 GS500 to a very fishy guy, and after a month of looking for bike i find it.. and took it back(with help of the police)..

Its missing a few parts, but the main 2 I'm looking for is:
Stock exhaust (he cut it off down to where the center stand is..).
head light socket and bulb...

I do not know if the idiot ran the bike with out an exhaust, and i have not started (and will not until exhaust is on it). The cut is not rusted, so it must be pretty fresh. This deal cost an arm and leg just locating the bike, and its not worth going after him for the exhaust etc.

Thanks for any help, thought some one might have a stock one on the shelf some where.

P.S; Word of advice, run a background on people you sell/trade with be for hand.. I took a guy at his word, and it came back to bite me in the ass.. So much for being nice to people.

Confused: you sold it then had to go get it?  :dunno_black: Is it that he didn't pay cash?  :dunno_black: Or you let him pay by check?  :dunno_black:

I took a trade as down payment and he was suppose to pay the rest the following week. I took his word he would not drive the bike etc until he finished paying and we transferred after its fully paid for. After a month i locate it with the help of his ex. He point blank told the officers he was not paying me for the bike and the officers released it to me(still in my name, so I still legally own it). He had been riding around on it with no insurance etc, and with plates switched. He could have caused me a lot of problems as a result.

I learned my lesson. Anything i sell will be paid on the post and transferred that day. People or simply to untruest worthy these days.

Lesson learned.
Around here deals are nearly always cash. Most are cash in hand just to test ride. When ever possible, we go to the licensing office together (they are open Saturday). Exchange cash and go in and do all paperwork. It really makes both parties happy and confident the deal is complete from a cash and a legal standpoint.

I would be suspicious of "here's a bike fro a deposit and I'll pay next week" from a stranger.

For stock exhaust, pinwall on ebay has excellent ones. Shipped I think is under $75.

I have a complete "F" headlight that was "monsterized" and needs cleaning & polishing to be usable. But all sockets are there. Bulbs look good. You can have it for postage if that will help you out.

Tell me about it... Haha

You could put a delkelvik slip on exhaust. That would be pretty cool.
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Yeah, I tried to help the kid out, but back fired on me. We live, learn, and move on i guess.

I'll look up that guy on ebay tonight, getting ready to take a battery over to the garage and start the bike to see if it is still in good running condition be for buying the stock exhaust. That headlight will diffidently help me out, I'll pm you address so you can let me know postage cost.

Thanks

I've sold plenty of things and even held things for guys. Wanna pay some now and some later? No problem, but its not going to ship until its paid in full. Likewise, I've had guys want me to ship first, give a tracking and then they would pay......uh.....no. That's not how it works.

So overall, I think you know what to do or not do next time. If someone wants it and does have all of it, leave some money and bring the rest when you come to pick it up or bring all of it when you come to get it

Yeah, normally I don't deal with anyone until paid in full and transfer that same day.. I thought i would help the guy out, but that will never happen again. He actually tried to demand the bike back the next day after telling the officers he wasn't going to pay for it and did not want it..  :cookoo:

I had to go to county attorney about the guy coming to my house when i was not home and trying to push his way inside.. Then threaten to be waiting for me to come home (which I rushed home meet him, but he was long gone) and driving back and fourth in front of my house. I guess since the sheriff rolled up be for me, he took off being a repeat felon (which i found out after the fact). Sadly all the county attorney would do is "send him a letter".

My only concern is my home and property when I'm not home.. Its sad we have idiots like this running around free to do whatever. Its pretty bad you have to sit around your home worried what some one might do, but if he makes that mistake.. He will be transported away in the back of a ambulance, I will not stand for some one messing with family or property.... end of story

Add a couple security cameras. You know who he is and what he looks like. If something happens and you have him on camera - off to jail he goes.
Inexpensive system is a couple hundred at most. Probably get 2 cameras and DVR for a hundred or so.

Does this mean you will be joining the gun owners thread?

Yeah, I think if he is going to try something it will be in the next few days. A camera system will take a few days to come in the mail, and then a day to hook up and run all the wires (my garage is detached and about  half a football field form the back of my house). However my garage sits right behind my neighbors back door, and I informed him of what's going on. I'm going to add a extra security light to the garage.

I was formerly a self defense instructor.  So probably wont see me on the gun thread, i have not owned a firearm in years. I'm pro gun rights, just personally don't feel the need to have one right now.  I just hope this kid as the common sense to forget where i live.
