Yes it's a potential project thread ...

I may have been Kwaka bashing here and there over the last few months  ... But ..

One of the Lads at work has suggested a trade ...

My 89 CR250 , that needs a right side engine case/water pump housing, impeller and shaft, a pair of radiators and a air cleaner .. Plus some wrench/setup time , tuning etc ..... (I picked this bike up as is for $150 last year? Or before that a little?)

For his 93 KDX250 road trail , that needs a piston and rings, carbie, headlight and some of the usual TLC and setting up , maybe tyres .. Then could be rego'd and away I could go to the bush ride trails.

Neither bike has run for about 7 years ... But both have been kept out of weather ... He has previous rego papers so that side of things should be ok ..

From what I know the CR ... While old ... Was pretty much a track weapon in its day! ...while the KDX while also old ... Was more of your smokey/strokey 'weekend warrior/bush ride' style unit ... A mate has mentioned that the CR is intrinsically worth more than the KDX despite age difference .... But what do I need a highly strung 10/10ths bike for? .... I would prefer a roadable bike that I can whoosh off into the dirt on when I can....

Yes ... Even if its a Kwaka!! ... Never thought I'd consider one!!  .. But I am gonna give his bike a very close eyeball first!

... Thoughts on the viability of this?? ... Or anyone know what issues the KDX's have ??  ... I'll check around on dirt forums too ... Just I figure the wide range of educated folks here could have some good info!! ..

Go for it. the more time you can put into it yourself, better off youd be. 2 cycle jobs are quick. timing on 4 strokes not so much. but easy imho. i can overhaul the pigs top end and have her running inside an hour. 2 smoker bikes an hour give or take. 4 stroke singles a tad longer but feasible. depending upon parts
