Not mine though. A friend brought over his 2007 GSX-R750 for to me do some plastic welding on his fairings to repair some cracks. I was at the time working on putting a new Brocks Sidewinder exhaust on my bike. He had earlier blew his main 30A fuse riding it over here and so he got a truck and trailer and got it here that way. By the time he had got it here he had already replaced the fuse. Anyway, at one point I needed to go to the part store to get some more oil for my bike so we left and werent gone 20 mins. I turned the corner and his bike was on fire. A big tall fire. I jumped out and grabbed a hose and had it under control and out in a couple of minutes. Its a total loss. The Fire Dept came out anyway and the Arson Investigator came out this morning and ruled it electrical which we had already assumed. He thinks the ignition shorted and caused a dead short in the main wore from the battery which in turn heated the wires to melt the insulation which then started the fire.

He has full coverage and GAP so he will be fine but everyone please be careful as this bike was well maintained and shown no issues other than the blowing of a fuse. Now that should have been a heads up but you cant trouble shoot something like that with no power so its just one of those things you never expect.

More so for insurance purposes than anything else although Im sure the insurance company will do their own investigation.

:2guns: They  :police: will blame the person that put in the replacement fuse 'cause 30 amp fuses don't blow unless something is seriously wrong.  :technical:

weedahoe

And then they will blame the manufacture for a faulty fuse for not blowing when it should have instead of burning a bike to the ground

Pics appear to be borked.

Anyway, that sounds like complete crap. I'd be mad as hell.

I will check like permissions on the pics here in a min

The main wire from the battery goes to the starter and ignition. But before that, everything goes through the main fuse. For whatever reason, it didn't pop

Maybe it shouldn't have been a 30 amp fuse?

weedahoe

The 30A is the correct size for the main fuse. In the fuse box however, the rest for each circuit it protects are 10A and 15A fuses.

The insurance company came and took possession of the bike the morning. I'm sure they will be cutting him a check soon

Xune wins hands down for the best pix.  :D

Wonder what made that bike flame up with a new fuse. Anyone ever determine why it flamed up? Battery area is fine. Front may need some buffing and bondo then it should be good to ride again.

weedahoe

IDK what caused it. Fire Dept Arson Inspector said electrical at the ignition.

The owner is waiting to hear what the insurance inspection is going to say although I dont expect it to say anything differently

On a side note, I have a Viair 380C on board air compressor on my truck with a 3 gallon tank. It is mainly used for my air horns bit gives enough air to use any air tools or even with an air hose, can be used for flat tires easily. It has a PSI shut off switch and a pressure relief valve on the tank

One night, I left the switch one and it must have bled down a so the compressor kicked on. It never blew the inline fuse but ran until the two 1000 CA / 850 CCA batteries in my truck were dead. It melted the switch I had on it. The pressure relief valve keep any damage from the tank or compressor but the fuse never blew even though it was distorted from the heat from the amp draw from extended and excessive usage of it continuing to run

Moral of the story, fuses dont always blow like they are supposed to.
