Hello! I have been a lurker to this board for awhile just never posted anything but I decided to start an account to get some ideas for my 92 GS500e track build. Before that I bit about my bikes. I have a 92 GS500e she was my first bike got ripped off tons of problems and poorly maintained, but she is a trooper and has taken me to work and the occasional highway for a year with out to many issues. Now comes my new bike I decided I wanted something more powerful and newer. I ended up getting a 2005 Suzuki GSF1200s for a good price at my local dealership, bad luck the next day as an idiot in a Mazda decided they wanted in my lane as I was traveling beside them without a blinker and without warning, I ended up sqeezing my front brake to prevent from being run off the road and I think it was a combination of cold tires, not used to a 6 piston caliper and a shifty stretch of road caused my front end to collapse doing 5k worth of damage to the GSF, anyway lesson learned and bike repaired. Anyways I am here to get advice on where to start on my GS500e, Right now it has a K&N Air Filter and a New chain and Sprocket set. As for what it needs new rear caliper, front forks are leaking oil, headers are missing bolts and tank is dented, not to mention the MPH gauge needle is broken and the trip reset odometer knob is gone. I want to tear her down and make her into a track days bike, the motorcycle shop I use (National City Motorcycle for those around the San Diego area) told me they used to race the gs500's all the way up to a couple years ago and they are great bikes. This build is going to take awhile but its a good project for me and my son to do together. Any help or suggestions on parts, fenders, etc would be appreciated I am kinda making a shopping list so I can buy things when I have the cash for them Thanks for your help!!! See ya Around!

I think you just answered your "where to start" question. They'll never let you on track with that goin on

If you're serious about track days then remove the gauges, set them on the shelf, put a $20 bicycle computer on it and go do a track day.  Post pics. Especially the ones where you dent the tank again.

Oh, and get some good (new) tires.

Check with your local rules, you might have to remove center stand, etc    Have fun

Hello Again!

Thanks for the replies, I guess I know what I need to fix for starters I guess what I was trying to ask is what upgrades should I make if any, I am not really worried about the tank lol, I actually have a new one in my garage  I bought off CL for 80 bucks, primered not painted though. Would installing a Biycle computer be difficult? I am a diesel mechanic by trade but when it come to electronics I am slightly retarded. You know I thought about removing my gauges before because I made a makeshift mount for my smart phone and had a motorcycle speedomter which used my GPS location to gauge speed it was fairly accurate and can't beat free apps.

One more question Contour Roam2 vs GoPRO Hero 3 it seems like people are straight 50/50 on them, although the Roam is more in my price range.

I've just got a drift ghost HD and love it.... But really any of the higher end cameras are fine... Each have their little plus and minus points ... If your budget dictates a Contour then go with that .. You won't feel left out at all! ... Vlogs and ride videos are that much fun to do and more fun to share with others! ...

There's still the cliques of GoPro or Drift or Contour or even Sony ... But the overall community of users don't really mind what you use!!  :thumb:

Upgrades on the bike though ... Suspension... Front definitely and rear most likely depending on your body weight ... Then depending on your type of track style and need there's all kinds of options for sprockets, carb work, filters, exhausts, brakes ... Suspension is a biggie though!

yup. and safety wiring everything once repaired. as far as gauges, id recommend a trailtech vapor. not cheap, but not horrendously expensive. everything contained within one small package. ( odometer, speedo, tach, and temp.) i have one installed on my goped gtr40 can usually pick one up 40-75ish used depending o how many sensors included. and those are avail on ebay and via manuf. websites
