Replacing Carbs

I am needing to replace the carbs on my 01 and was checking before i purchase off ebay, are all carbs after 01 essentially compatible? I have heard of changes on the 04+ carbs and wasnt sure of they would still be compatible

I want the old carbs ...
04 carbs would fit and work on all ... any year carb off any GS works, just cables to be fixed.

04+ are the same 3 jet carbs as 2001-2002. The 04+ do have a throttle position sensor and vacuum switch, which you can leave disconnected. Some of the extra vacuum lines (like to PAIR system) you just cap off.
