i have a 99 gs 500 e i have been working on it  fixing riding then fixing and riding   i was have problem with the carbs overflowing back into the airbox.  I got a rebuild kit and rebuilt both carbs adjusted the floats and got it back together. Thought i was good but when i started it up the throttle was hesitating and when i got the rpms over 4500 there was a lot of gas coming out of the crankcase breather tube back into the air box.
My idle air crew is turned out 2 1/2 turns and i double checked that the float needles werent sticking  i know i have a air leak between the carb and engine thet im getting stuff to fix but dont think thats the cause of the excessive fluid coming out the crankcase breather tube  need help   want to start riding more than fixing for a change

Gasoline coming from the crankcase breather???  Are you sure?

Did you change your oil after you rebuilt your carbs?  It's possible that your case could be filled with gas (and oil).  Check the oil level and take a sniff to check for gas smell.

taginc

no i havent changed the oil and yes it does smell like gas but its at the right level on the dip stick  i planned on doing an oil change after i got it running right because i dont see how the oil would be the issue
confused!

if the carbs were filling the breather box it also most likely put gas in the crank cases as well. dump the oil and flush the motor really good.  Then put in a new filter and oil.  Then run the bike and see if you are still getting a gas smell from the vent line.

its posible i left the petcock on prime i rife with it on prime most of the time

how do i flush the engine really good before putting new oil in?

The Buddha

If you've run the bike on a gas+oil mixture, its flushed it already.
I'd check for a gas smell in the oil, if none, jus tchange the oil+filter.
Cool.

dump the oil and old filter.  replace oil filter cover and put oil in the motor.  turn gas off and pull the plugs.  crack the engine over taking breaks to not over heat the starter.  dump the oil and make sure it doesn't still smell of gas.  if it does repeat until you don't smell gas in the oil.  Put in a new oil filter and oil and fire the bike up :thumb:
