Also, to the OP, the SV doesn't shift nearly as smooth as the GS anyways. The GS has the smoothest tranys I've felt. My SV, not so much..

Yeah, but I'm sure that's not my problem.  It's probably my lack of good technique and impatience mostly.

I should emphasize... Be gentle, especially on the shift lever. If you try to force the bike between gears, you can bend a shift rod. Only fix for that is to split the cases.

I've used clutchless changing on most bikes I've had.  the GS is really smooth and easy to change on. Clutch for 1st and the no clutch needed for the rest of the ride until coming to a standstill. This is in London traffic and going up to 6th and back again.

So I'm getting a little better at this.  I think I'm turning too many rpms in the lower gears before shifting, as well as rolling off too far which is causing it to be rough.  Also, I think sometimes I roll back on the throttle too hard which causes the bike to jump a little.  I got a couple of pretty good shifts going into 3rd and 4th today.  Currently I'm just putting pressure up on the shifter and slowly rolling off the throttle until the shifter slips up without any extra pressure from me.  It seems like I have to roll off farther than I would expect some of the time.  No grinding or anything going on, just a nice clunk into gear sometimes, with a little lurch of the bike when I do it wrong.  I'd say I'm pretty smooth with it 25% of the time right now.
