From original to a half assed version of a naked bike was my original mission just to have some fun over the summer. I have now re-torn down the bike and completely re wired the bike while removing a lot of unnecessary items including the speedo and tack

Currently rethinking ideas for the headlight as of my original set up was off of a 73 shovel head.

I have chopped the tail and that's about it until next weekend more pics to come later tonight.

Whats the general thought on ditching the dual carbs and going for a single ?

ALSO BEFORE CRITIQUES: The slap job red exhaust will be removed lol, this was a spare part laying around the shop thought it would sound a little better...it did, but looks horrendous.

The speedo is not "unnecessary" - IIRC, every motorcycle is legally required to have a speedometer and odometer. Or maybe it's just the odometer .......

As far as the carbs go: it's not impossible to make a 2-1 intake manifold, but why try it? The tuning process would be a nightmare. If you want to get away from the stock CV carbs, look into Mikuni VM32's.

Look around on eBay for Benelli headlights. Them, or old Honda headlights that have the speedo built in (and have the correct ratio).

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Uh, yeah, not sure where you are...but speedo is absolutely required to pass any inspection. Unless you meant to say, ditched it for a different one.

The Buddha

I dunno bunnyboiler, most cafe jobs, chopper jobs, bobber jobs, estended arm jobs, slam jobs, bling jobs, neon jobs etc etc etc look like garbage to me.
The GS thankfully looks alright as a naked, cos it started out that way, so its under fairing parts are "made to be shown" ...
Cafe - not with that wide a$$$ perimeter frame ...

And dont even start with doing anything else on it.
You're itching to break out you sawzall and welder, I'd say start out with a savage and turn it into a chopper ...
You want a cafe ? Get a 1 or 2 cyl bike with a spine type frame ...

Dont even get me started on the rest of the hack jobs to me, they look an awful lot like a bad plastic surgery job to me.

Welding on a hard tail, estending the thing, slamming it ... and god forbid all 3 ... yuck.

Cool.

I like it! Looks a lot better and I love the nake look.

Also a little curious about the speedo comment.... :)

Not to be crass or start a comment war but the legality of the bike is not a concern, you see dirt bikes running up and down the interstate where i reside with no speedo and no problems are had. How ever if i do get pulled over they will have a field day with my lack of blinkers and the single index sized mirror. Not the first bike i have ran this way, provides a clean look to the bike.

Quick request, has any one seen a build with a buell'ish type exhaust ran ? if so a link is greatly appreciated.

Why not have a go at making your own exhaust. Take your old system off and just copy the downtubes, to the bends under the sump. Then see if you can fabricate your own 2 into 1 adaptor to suit a short stubby can. If it fails,at least you can put your own system back on. By the way, my exhaust can is bright orange....so I,ve had to just go with it.
Take a look n see what you think. I also went with a cafe race theme, and cut the subframe as short as possible, and removed the seat lock, and pillion footrests for a cleaner look. I made my own seatpan and had an upholsterer to create the cafe racer look. I also removed the tacho and speedo, but replaced that with a very small one with led warning lights built into the face.

UPDATE

I have striped the bike, and eliminated most of its wiring. Need to read into a schematic to figure out if i can run the bike with little wiring as possible, at the moment all things are pointing to yes i will post another thread on that though.

Replacing the rear fender with the diamond plate slab (this is very ruff example but I am personally liking the idea)

also running all stainless brake and clutch lines for the fun of it.

Few More

Removed the gauges and smoothed down the roughness, would like to find a pare of risers laying around here to eliminate the plate.

Below are also some ideas of whats going to happen with the rear fender and skirts have a lot of work to do to get everything smoothed out.

Lastly for now at least

Did a little bit of hacking to expose the chain a little more.

Need to build a battery box, and pick up a anti-gravity battery to make this placement work.

Last picture is part of a fender from a previous build, kind of toying with the idea of using it (not sure of the tilt of it) and fiberglass/mold the rear tail light up in it.

I would love to hear from some of you, if you have ideas or just want to lay down some criticism, either way thanks for spending some time looking at my little side project. Ill try to keep images updated.
