Hey guys, i got a mystery part which i cant seam to find, I asked the dealer if they even had a part number for it or any thing and they said it wasn't a stock part.... :bs:

Its the white vacuum connector if any one has one or knows of a part number or where i could find it besides a junk yard please let me know. The local junk yards riped all the carbs out of the gs500f's and are selling them as a hole for $200 or more.

They even use OEM part numbers.

Yeah i seen that I was looking only for the plastic if possible. I don't think that was listed for the '04......it was, not just the plastic...shoot!

Any one selling the top carb diag for the right hand side.

sledge

That's an easy kludge while you are waiting for a replacement part.

Find an inch of steel brake pipe.
Drill out the hole in the plastic cap to fit the pipe
Araldite the pipe into the hole and let it set.
Fit the cap back on the carb and push the pipe on  :dunno_black:

Or speak to Adidasguy, the onsite parts whore...  ;)
In my posts:
Volume - US Gallon or Liter, otherwise noted
Length - Metric, otherwise noted

Thanks sledge for the fix, but its running fine with out it.....I know its there for a reason but i haven't figured out why yet?

Thanks piresito ill have to see if he might have one hes willing to let go of

adidasguy

I will check tonight in my big box-o-carb-parts.

And if you go to a dealer you gave to buy the entire cap because suzuki doesn't just make that cap. I had the same thing happen to me.

jboogie13

I can't access ebay from my work computer, but perhaps someone is selling the cap assembly for cheap on there?

I checked my carb box -o-parts and the plastic caps have been sent out to other people. Sorry - none in there.

I have the exact same issue. Mine broke off and left a small enough stub that I can friction fit the vacuum line on gently, but any jarring has knocked it off. IMHO Suzuki really messed up on that piece by making it out of plastic that will go brittle over time. Even worse is they don't sell it separately.

Sledge's idea is actually really good. Basically cut off the plastic piece, drill a small hole and thread/glue a metal pipe of sorts in there.

I did attempt to glue it.....most likely incorrect glue. 3M super glue did not stick to any thing but my fingers, so i figured I'd sand it, wash it dry it and try again still no luck. So i attempted to weld it together it held for about  10 minutes until i started installing the carb. I did see a few wrecked 04' gs500s around here for cheap less than $400 so i might be parting one out.

Before you spend the money, let me do some testing. I need to break down my carb this week so I plan on putting together a how-to on using hypodermic stainless steel tube as a replacement for the fragile plastic. Total cost of materials shouldn't exceed $25 if you already have the proper threading die and pipe cutter. I found all the parts I needed on Amazon so I hope to put together a solution to this. If this problem has not occurred on a newer GS yet, it is bound to happen eventually.

You need two-part epoxy, something like araldite if you can get hold of it. Super glue is useless  :dunno_black:

I tried using JB Weld twice and super glue once. Neither was able to hold it on. I figured the super glue (cyanoacrylate) would physically fuse the parts together since it works by melting plastic, but these caps are made of some sort of chemical resistant plastic that is unfortunately not heat resistant in the long run.

Make sure you clean and degrease it real good before trying to glue it on, and rough up any smooth parts to help stuff stick.

It also helps to use a nice big blob of adhesive to make sure it gets in all the nooks and crannies. Just drill out the port later if you get it clogged up. Thicker stuff like epoxy you can run a somewhat thin layer on the outside to give it a little extra grip.

I haven't actually looked at the part, but as Sledge said, if you can get good fitment of a tube by drilling and putting a new tube in, that would probably be your best option.

errr .. i know this is an ongoing search for solution to that tricksy broken plastic part...

araldite steel ...strength retained up to 65deg C ... how much radiant heat or even heat transmitted through the carbs to that plastic part?

... and being a plastic part that is already broken .. so possibly in a weakened state to begin with ... glue/stick it on with anything? .. at that stub on the bigger assembly? ..  :dunno_black:

the drill and tap idea .. with these things maybe? http://www.air-logic.com/oldsite/Plastic%20Fittings%20Cat/pg5barbdfit.html

if they are small enough?

My guess is those are either too large or too small. I took a caliper to my broken off tube and here are the measurements:

Outer Diameter  = .1625 inches or 4.14mm
Inner Diameter = .081 inches or 2.06mm

The hypodermic tubing I ordered has the following measurements:

Outer Diameter = .165 inches
Inner Diameter = .135 inches.

Hoping I can just drill out the existing fragile tube, and then possibly use a 4mm tap to thread the tubing into the plastic body, or just use epoxy and hope it is strong enough.

Funny thing is I don't think these play much of a role in the overall function of the engine..?
