02  Haven't gotten much seat time....bit cold, but I'm having a lot of fun with it.  It's a replacement for a Vstrom

You replaced a strom? What tha? Although, if you are going to, the GS500 is the right bike to replace it with. Just like the only suitable replacement for the GS500 is a WeeStrom.

Yea replacing the V with a GS does seem strange for some.  I just never fell in love with the V.  Did not like a faired bike.  It was to heavy and I couldn't flat foot it even with the seat lowered.  I have a lot less invested in this bike so I was able to put a few dollars in my pocket and will only carry liability insurance so will continue the savings.

I also am not warming up to the sv1k. It always feels wrong ... I4's work for me, or parallel twins or singles ... I think I am mentally opposed to the extra casting and BS and CCT and this and that added on by the V ...

I dont mind em in cruisers, but not in anything else.

Cool.

I like naked twins. I do want to get my hands on a gs engine, and find a way to increase its displacement,  agr650 transplant but without the hassle of the exhaust issues

There are usually a couple of GS engines on Craigslist and of course Ebay.  Wonder if you could get away with just buying a cylinder and  boring it out.  There is probably a piston that would fit.  Problem would be the length from CL of wrist pin to CL of crank.  Or looking at it the other way around....use your rod and find a piston with the right size wrist pin and distance from CL of wrist pin to top of piston.  Shouldn't be to expensive....you are still going to have to deal with jetting issues.

I did a Yamaha upgrade where you bored the Yamaha cylinder and a Suzuki TS piston fit perfect....no other work needed.

For now I'm happy with the GS.  Oh and I did look at the F models.  Really do like the naked bike better.
