Hi all! first, I'm from Spain (Europe), and sorry for my very bad english. I have read this forum a lot, and it's very good and useful forum, thanks for do a forum for the GS 500, in my opinion great bike!

So, my "problem" is, I have been changing the piston valve of carburators (because I have the bike limited in power), and when I quit the needle, I lost the top washer. This whaser is located by factory over the E-clip, see the photo from moosehead28 in http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=53639.0 .

This is my edit for best explanation:

Ok, I searched during one hour the washer on the floof, but not sucess :(. Ok, I put back all in the carburetors (I have lost ONE washer from right carburetor, but the left carburator is in, like in the picture). Bike starts as ever, simply perfect, and runs great too. But I have this questions, is bad for the carburetor or engine runs without the washer in one of the two carburetors?

If this is so bad...where can I get a new washer? Many thanks for reading! Great forum ;D.
P.D.: sorry for my english again :(

That washer is there to provide a smooth surface for the spring (under the retention cap) to rest on; the amount of spacers between the e-clip and where the needle goes through the slide is what dictates your performance.  In other words, there shouldn't be any issues with the washer missing.

That should be OK.
You can get any small washer of the correct size at a hardware store.
The spring pushes on the washer as you have mentioned. That is the only purpose of that washer. Buy any washer of the correct size.

The parts in the picture to the right of the e-clip control the fuel. Those are the same which is why the bike still runs OK.

The spring is pressing on the e-clip which is OK, but the washer is getter for the spring to push on.

Wow what a fast answers! Many thanks!

Ok, If is better have this washer, do you know measure? I have read in other post measure for 2001+ models are M3/3mm. This one, for example will fit? http://www.ebay.es/itm/10-PACK-A2-STAINLESS-STEEL-M3-3MM-FLAT-WASHER-FORM-A-THICK-WASHER-/300883217039?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Nails_Fixing_MJ&hash=item460e098a8f&_uhb=1

Well, it doesn't matter if the spring push the e-clip directly, not? I think I will not put a new washer, bike runs perfect, and I save money. Thanks a lot!  I can sleep now, great.

Well it's better for the spring to have a flat surface to rest on (i.e. washer rather than just the e-clip), but you shouldn't have any problems with the washer missing.

There's nothing in the carbie that shouldn't be there. Mr Suzuki didn't throw any parts in for fun. The little washer is fitted to avoid the e-ring being subject to a force that exceed the ring's thrust tolerance. The washer spreads (hey, don't furgin laugh) the load the spring places on the ring. Might be minuscule, but there are forces at play around the needle assembly. So, ya might never have a problem but one day ya might lo largo de la A132 con el padre vasco loco de una chica que la estacio engangando con and the clip springs, and the bike dies, and you're in the same boat. So, off ya go get a washer. shove it in the carbie, be happy. Watch out for those Basque Dads though, mean furgers, they tell me.

Hi again. Ok, I will buy one. What the size of original washer?

Internal diameter is 3mm. But:

What's the Thickness? 0'5mm? And what's outside diameter, 6mm? Can someone tell me please? I can't go to the bike to measure it...

This will be ok? http://www.ebay.es/itm/10-PACK-A2-STAINLESS-STEEL-M3-3MM-FLAT-WASHER-FORM-A-THICK-WASHER-/300883217039?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Nails_Fixing_MJ&hash=item460e098a8f&_uhb=1

Thanks!

Agreed.....leaving parts out however small or apparently insignificant is not good practice and lets face it someone who knows a lot more than us about carbs decided it needed to be there  :dunno_black:

if its not vital in your carb its not vital in everyone's carb so onsider the numbers involved and ask how much money Mikuni would save if they left it out of the thousands and thousands of carbs they have made  :dunno_black:

Standard Form A 3mm metric washers have nominal dimensions of  3.2mm x 7mm x 0.5mm. If it will fit the thickness shouldn't be an issue but there is nothing stopping you fitting one on the other side to balance things up if you wish.
