Looking good.
Now some Rutland Stove Polish on the pipes and a new emblem for the timing cover (a $14 OEM item).

Jayke

Nice job!

Looks real nice, does it feel much different to ride?

Thanks! I need to get an emblem on both sides, from what I'm seeing they have different part numbers. Each side is different?

It does actually feel way different to ride to me. I'm sure it's all mental but not seeing the fairings/windshield just makes it feel like a different bike

adidasguy

Emblem on both sides the same.
There are part numbers for black/silver, silver/black and all silver.
Price about $14 each. Be sure you're looking at part number for emblem and not the side covers or rotor cover.

Looks great :) I took my side fairings off because they annoyed me lol. was is hard to convert the headlight? I am thinking of taking the front light fairing off as well.  :thumb:

It definitely feels like a different animal. When I first converted mine F to E I felt much more confident being able to see what exactly my front end was doing. Probably a more mental thing as well, but felt less bulky and much more nimble.

It's definitely not mental.  After learning to ride on naked bikes, getting on a faired bike always feels like riding a bus in the corners (to me anyways).  I couldn't believe how much of a difference all that weight over the front end would make.

gsJack

Difference is only 14# based on my memory.  Been a while since they were listed on US site so I checked current Aussie site and new naked is 193kg and F model is 199kg.

When I first got into riding, all bikes where naked, so naked bikes are just Meh to me because I have had so many of them over the years. If I'm going to go on an all day ride (what I normally do), I want a fairing...way less fatiguing, but for spooling around town I always tend to ride my naked Yamaha  :thumb:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_fairing

"The major benefit of a fairing on sport touring and touring motorcycles is a reduction in fuel consumption. The reduction in aerodynamic drag allows for taller gearing, which in turn increases engine life.

The first factory installed full fairing was that installed on the BMW R100RS introduced in 1976. This marked the beginning of widespread adoption of fairings on sports, and touring types of motorcycles."

My bikes have all been naked for the 30 years I've been riding.  I like them that way but always put on an aftermarket windshield.  On the 2 GSs I've had I've put on a big Plexi 2 shield winters and a smaller Spitfire for summers.  Change them twice a year.

Agreed, I added a Shoei FM-2 to my '79 GS750L, it made all the difference in the world, even for as small as it was.
