Hello everyone!

So I'm in the process of rebuilding my 1995 GS500E, will more then likely start a build thread this weekend as I'll be working all week. And don't worry guys, it'll be picture heaaaavy! Haha, anyways what I've done so far is completely dismantled my bike to the frame to make things a little easier as I add mods to it, so with it apart I thought I'd take the carbs inside and get to know my carb better.

Anyways, found out that I need a new diaphragm for one side because theres a tiny tear in it, also need new Vacuum O Rings because the ones are shot. Probably order it from a parts fiche listed here by next week.

The issue I'm having though is I'm not exactly sure what size the main jets are.

The jet I'm talking about.

Is this the stock Main? How can you tell what size it is? And I've already searched you guys so I'm definitely not trying to get spoon fed.

Also, I have a question about the Enrichment needle, as I'm almost positive mine is not stock.

What are the adjustments on it? Moving the C-Clip down does what?

And lastly is the pilot jet, which I'm almost positive is stock as well, the numbers read 37.5 and the wiki says that is stock.

Okay, so, to recap, my questions are is that the stock main jet, what adjustments do the C-Clip on the enrichment needle do, and how can you tell the size of the main?

One last thing, if that's not the stock enrichment needle, why would the previous owner change it? The bike itself had a Yoshi slip on, a K&N Lunchbox, and I'm guessing what is called a POD filter coming from the breather ontop of the Valve cover.

The wiki says the jet sizes for the K&N and Yoshi is;

pilot 40
main 147.5
washers 1
turns 3
elevation: 900'.

So I'm guessing I'll have to rejet? The main and pilot.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated! If you need more information just ask me and I'll reply as soon as I can!

Ok, I'll see if I can hit these all for ya:

1. The Main jet, usually has the size stamped on the top of it. It might be covered in gunk, as these are usually a nice shiny brass. Try cleaning it lightly.

2. The adjustable clip allows for adjusting the fuel mix. Lower the clip, richer the mix. With the performance exhaust and airbox, you would want a richer mix. The stock needle isn't as adjustable...although it's usually just fine.

3. You will want to rejet, slightly. I would move the clip down one, get the 40 pilot jet (this is normal for almost any bike), and depending ont he main, match up to the 147.5. It should have a slightly larger diameter head on it, the one in your pic looks a little small. Oh, DO NOT get a bleeder pilot jet...they have small holes in the neck.
