1993 GS500 update and issue with oil pressure light staying on

Hey guys,
It's been awhile since my last post, the GS has been sitting on the back burner for the winter months. Now as we all know spring is upon us and its time to start the projects again and I've got a bit of a situation with my GS. I'll start off with a bit of back story, last fall I picked up a 1993 GS500e with 12k miles on it. It certainly needed some work, one of the carbs we're leaking gas, the crankcase had a pretty major oil leak. This is my first motorcycle at age 19 and not to mention my first time ever taking on mechanical challenge such as this.

My first work was done on the carbs, I tore them apart finding several missing parts(Almost all the gaskets+Float needle valve) on the right side carb. I ordered the parts I needed and got it put back together. I thought this was a decent accomplishment for never working on anything like this before. The bike ran great after that, now I moved on to the next issue which is the oil leak. This would become the source of the problems I am now facing. I opened the crankcase to find what seemed to be two old gaskets mixed and mashed with each other. After a hour or so of vigorous scraping I had finally removed the gasket, installed my new one, went to put every thing back together but several of the old bolts did not wish to comply. After making several trips to the hardware store I finally got it back together. Before I went to put fresh oil in I wanted to change out the oil filter but then come to find out with the aftermarket headers my bike has on it. It would be a extremely challenging task so I just skipped it even though the old oil was rich with gas from the carb problems  :nono:

So now to my current situation.
After filling the bike with fresh oil(Yes, Correctly) then starting it up. When the bike starts the oil pressure like will come on and just stay on. I ran the bike for 2-3min with the light remaining on(Stupid I know but I knew no other way to troubleshoot) Everything looks good around the starter, the oil pressure wire was firmly screwed in place. I did do some minor revving of the bike with no change of the light between idle and 5k+ RPMs

So it's been a few months since last messing with it and I'm ready to get back into it, I just have no idea where to start so I ask if anyone out there has any advice on where I should look or what I should do. As I see it I only have a few options.
1. Take the bike to a professional
Pros- I have no idea what I am doing, It being an older bike, I would like to have a second opinion on the components I may be trusting my life upon.
Cons- I do not have the funds at this time to pay the prices most shops require.

2. Sell the bike
Pros- None I can see, I bought a bike to ride and dammit i'm gonna ride!

3. Get some community assistance and hit the roads  :thumb:

Is the center stand missing? Oil needs to be checked with the bike level.

An air bubble can get into the oil pressure sensor. Less chance if bike is level.  On side stand, bubble will remain. Try tilting bike to the right and the bubble should come out (if that is the problem)

Another possibility is the oil sensor wire is disconnected. Look under the timing rotor cover. Possibly you connected it to the frame or wrong place and not the oil sensor.

Center stand is down in most of those pics but I'm not sure if it was when I started it. I'll give tilting it a shot next run.
Also should I be starting it to do small tests like this or could it be causing damage?

An extra question
This hole filled with pieces of the old gasket so I took some paper towels and cleared it out. I'm not entirely sure but could this have something to do with the oil pressure sensor?

You should be able to crank the Ike over with the plugs out enough so that the oil light kits off, and no that's a locating hole there's a pin in your side cover that gos in there

Id suggest an actual oil pressure gauge at this point before going any farther

Not sure what you mean by this but for the suggestion on getting an oil pressure gauge. I looked into getting one but they seem pretty pricey so that is out of the question.

Just pull your plugs, and crank the bike this will allow you to check for oil pressure with out damage to the motor

Btw most auto parts stores loan oil pressure gauges, and tools.
