Hey guys. When i got my bike the gauges worked perfect. The needles read perfect. About two weeks ago for some reason the tachometer when it hits over 3 grand or so it will start jumping around. When im going a steady speed around 5 grand it will jump back and forth from 4500 and 6 or so. It wont stay steady at 5 grand. It really bothers me that it is doing this. Idk if its my gauges that are faulty or the needle is jus loose. But i would really like for it to be fixed. Seeing it jump around while accelerating hurts my heart haha any help is greatly appreciated

All year speedometers and the mechanical drive tachs on 89-02 model GSs usually just need a little grease on their drive cables when they start jumping around.  What year is yours?
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Mine is a 06. I heard that they are electrical by then. But i not entirely sure.

I had a loan bike(2008 naked) & the tach would go on/off intermittantly.......very annoying.  >:(
Methinks you'll need a New/2nd hand tach as yours is electronic & probably not cost effective to repair.
ebay.

Usually you can replace stepper motors and re calibrate them, it's a pita so if you not good at electrons repair I don't suggest it. You can get the number off the motor and order from a parts dealer like mouser
