Hey all. Stuck with a bit of a problem.

Changed the brake lines and fluid today and spilled fluid out of the rear fluid reservoir near the battery. Finished the job and then bike wouldn't start up. Clicked once each time I tried to start it and then the third time it didn't click and all lights went out. Checked fuse and it was fine. Checked battery and it was at full charge.

Push started it and it started and ran Ok after warming up but then when I turned it off and tried to start, it clicked once and then the lights turned off again.

Push started again and realized the both times I push started it the tachometer was only working sporadically. Neutral light dims and tach stops working when I pull in brake handle.

Sorry for the curt sentences but I'm stuck away from home with not too much mechanical knowledge. Any ideas?

New twist. When I push start and get it running, and then use front or rear brake, bike dies.

Could the brake fluid have eaten through the brake light cable protective plastic causing it to short against the frame everything you try to break

It could be. I'll check later tonight when I can get back to my friend's house where its parked.

...that might make sense pomme, as you typically use the front brake when starting the bike, even if its in neutral... and you wouldn't use the brakes if you are trying to push start...  I'm just trying to logically brake it down in my head how that would make sense with the actual wiring though  :dunno_black:

Ended up disconnecting the battery, fiddling with the rear brake switch, and then reconnected the battery --- bike started up fine. Everything works great now except my horn isn't working...but I'm not sure if it was working before I changed the fluid because I remember riding home the day before and honking my horn at a driver that cut me off and don't remember hearing anything...I was going 55mph-ish though so the wind might have just been too loud.

I'm going to take some rubbing alcohol and wipes to the cables and stuff later this week and see if I can't clean things up.
