Adding Oil (how often - does it just burn off?)

Yes the biggest thing to stop oil use for these bikes is to get hand fitted rings. The factory fitment on them is pretty loose and lets lots of crap seep past.

This is what i do not like to read! My bike has less than 5k miles, should I consider buying a new set of rings and fitting them? Ive done this on my 2 stroke dirt bike, so i have to assume it isn't any more difficult.

Putting rings in a 4 stroke is considerable more difficult than a 2 stroke....just the amount of parts you have to remove to get to the rings.

With 5k on the engine I would put oil in it and ride it.  If you end up with some strange noises ....then.....think about working on it.

Ok good to know on checking the oil regularly.  As for the light coming on, it really never even came on fully it just flickered a bit, but yeah any time i see that form now on I'll make sure to shut her down.  I am hoping that it is ok as I shut it down pretty quickly after i started hearing abnormal noises.  I'll add the oil this weekend and keep you updated.  Regular 10W-40 oil?

its an air cooled engine. check oil at each fuel stop. over filling will make shifting difficult.
