They are probably the most popular frame sliders to install on the gs500, and quite a few members have them. Most have claimed cutting the fairing is pretty easy and the install is quick.

If you are concerned about cutting the fairing, T-Rex racing makes 'no cut' frame sliders for the gs500f. I have them on my bike and they are a solid choice as well. They just haven't been around near as long as the R and G to be as popular.

hmmm... I like the T-Rex sliders, might have to get those... thanks for the tip.

The R&G sliders saved my leg when a jeep backed into me. In general, the rod through the engine will break in the event of a serious crash and crack the fairing, but help save the engine and frame. I replaced the rod with a longer piece of threaded rod so that the sliders stick out a little farther and double as highway pegs. I figured, if they are going to break off in a crash anyways I might as well get a little extra utility out of them.

The mounting points of the T-rex sliders worry me, I would be interested to hear from anyone who has actually gone down at speed with them.

I noticed that too about the T-rex... hmmm.

I have a RH side T-Rex that's ground down about halfway.

I dropped it in the parking lot at work after I hit some gravel at the end of the lot (I hate gravel). The sliders seemed to work out well. Only damage was to the slider and my knee. But this was also at maybe 10mph. Fortunately, I have yet to test them going any faster.
