Windscreen attachment dimensions?

Hey everyone!

I'm currently in Indonesia for a year, and realized that I'm seeing LOTS of small windscreens on motorcycles that look pretty similar (dimensions wise) to the GS (even if they sometimes have tiny engines and fake ninja fairings ).

I'm betting I could get my hands on one of these for quite a bit less than on the web. Because I'm cheaper than dirt, this appeals to me.

I have a couple (of admittedly very noob) questions first, though:

1. Is this just a terrible idea?

2. what dimensions/ width of attachment should I be looking for? I don't want anything very large (mostly for aesthetics and to keep a little wind off my chest for longer trips), and I'm concerned that I'll end up with something that doesn't fit on the bike.
