Don't worry, it sure sucks but it's nothing that cannot be cleaned or made right. I was also cursing and getting furious over such things but after I chopped my finger I look differently on those things. :) Maybe it's for good? What if you had continued with putting the engine and that washer didn't fall into it, it would have fallen and crushed your feet? :D :D Always think positively!

Awwww man I feel that pain!!!! Some days you're just better off staying in bed...  :2guns:

I'm sure you'll recover nicely though!  :thumb:

edit; quick note, It seems to me, without any further research into the matter. that the GS500's clutch plates, are exactly the same as my 02 SV650s plates. - I might have to remove my Barnett plates, and springs from the 650 - since its just sitting there radiator less... hehe

aww thanks guys. as of earlier today. the engine is in the frame.

also these OEM bolts that suzuki uses. love to stretch and snap don't they?! I WAS EVEN USING MY TORQUE WRENCH. my lowest I can go with it, is 7 FT.LBs.

I follow a strange rule of thumb when it comes to torquing down bolts that I don't know what they should be.. for ever 1mm = 1 ft.lb + thread pitch. so a 8mm bolt, with a 1.00 thread pitch.  would be 9ft.lbs - and because suzuki's cheapo bolts, I normally drop it by 2ft.lbs. because they love to stretch and snap.

so my chase side [the side in the picture] has all new bolts.. non-oem stainless ones.  :woohoo:

Yes the stock bolts aren't all that crash hot... I have broken a few along the way myself!

spent 5 hours yesterday working on this seat. and it still came out kind of crappy. but I don't wanna spend more money for the vinyl and foam, and the sewing machine foot I should of bought... lol

lots of lessons learned, maybe when the funds allow it, ill build something better.

but its not too bad for my first time ever doing anything like this...

I can't find handlebars!!  :technical: :technical: :technical:

the ones that pull the bars back 2-3 inches, only have like 4" clamp areas. the GS is 4 3/4".  :2guns:

well I hammered out some steel from the scarp pile to create this cover. ill finish smoothing it a bit when the adhesive is dry. I was gonna bondo it smooth, but im not sure how hot it gets.. ill have to run it and take its temperature but it doesn't look to terribly bad. fits with the scrappy look im going for with the bike.

Good stuff mate, that will work.

Temperature wise I find I don't burn myself on that cover, certainly gets too hot to hold in your hand for any length of time but you can get the screws out of the ignition cover and take it off when she's up to temperature without blisters.

its rated for like 400 degrees. I think... got the bike started for a second today, will post the video sometime tomorrow.. started up super easy, easier then I remember a GS ever starting up.. makes me kinda of thing the petcock needs to be rebuilt on this one. as the fuel was directly going into the carbs. ill get around to that sometime later.

since I'm doing the bike in matte camo like colors.. I've been looking for a clear coat that's gas resistant.. and since its green and browns. and I've been doing some studying.. and I'm going with spar urethane..... we'll see, I'm doing a test piece. once everything cures, i'll drop some 91 oct. gasoline on it. [even though the gs doesn't use 91] it better to use something a little stronger. The RC guys says its almost as good as the 2k clears, the only difference is, it has a slight yellow tint. but its waterproof/UV rated/it drys hard after it cures [1 week to 2 weeks] and once it cures, it handles well. and since I'm rushing my test piece, [24 hours before I will fuel test it, plus my colorcoat never got to actually cure] so if everything holds up, i'll be super impressed!

like I said, I've been warned about the yellowing, and that would be the only down side if you where to do light color pieces. but if you stick with dark colors, it seems you should be okay. here's a picture, its still tacky, but it clearly is orange peeling a bit, I laid it on kinda thick by accident, wasn't use to its spray pattern.

Good luck with the clear! I did mine all in 2K and for my first ever spray paint job I'm pretty happy with it. Nowhere near perfect but good for the 10 foot view and Internet photos haha

Hopefully that clear will hold up for you...

Nice vid too, sounds just like a GS  :thumb:

well I haven't much updates.. last two days been helping a friend remodel? Rebuild? not sure what to call it.. this house. probably the most dodgy house I've EVER worked on. [you can step through parts of the FLOORS] but it should be a decent chunk of change into my pocket at the end.. who ever decided to work on it last, instead of doing things right, their DIY made things more horrible! I've seen trailers in better shape!

picture related at the bottom. what kind of workmen ship is this?! and yes that's exposed electrical. none of the "aftermarket" sheetrock is properly taped and mudded. its just butt jointed, and painted over...

also there's cedar studs and paneling in part of the house, and where there's "aftermarket" sheet rock hung, there's strips of moldy plywood under it.. because from what I could tell, the walls were originally plaster.

the roofs also saggy, and nothing is straight... but he wants the bathroom finished.. so I'm doing my best to make a safe and proper bathroom. so that's all I gotta worry about, even though I keep telling him that this house is a moldy death trap waiting to get knocked over by the first gust of wind.. some people really don't care???

well I have the clear on the tank finally, the first coat.. this stuff takes FOREVER to dry. it seems to dry faster in colder weather, assuming that's because the air is dryer.

pictures below... not the finished product, lots of wet sanding to do to rid of the tiny orange peel.and the god forsaken RUN! i didn't notice it until I re-turned the tank around. at least clear coat runs can be easily fixed.

edit; sorry for the massive pictures... lol I did resize them by half!

also explaining the walker a bit - its dedicated to Paul Walker [my grand father, not the movie star] who actually was the only person at the time who loaned me the money to buy my first motorcycle. sadly a year later, he passed away, and I never got to repay him like I had planned onto. I was going to put paul. but people are closed minded folks and will assume it has something to do with the Hollywood star, and ask me tons of questions about it. I personally don't mind answering "what bike is it" but when you have a whole slum of questions flying at you, when all you wanna do is go home and make dinner... its best to avoid.

the lettering isn't perfect. I just used regular 1 inch 3m painters masking tape. a printer, and a razor blade. to cut out a "stencil" per-say. and before that, I just polished the metal some to give it a shine, left some scratches in it because that's what gives it character? [because I was too lazy to finish it off, and will just call it character...]

thanks.. well I sanded the spot with 600 grit, and because of its placement and my noobyness. I hit the color coat, and not all of the clear drip came out.. so I laid up another coat of clear. will let this cure for 3 days. and off to the vinyl shop to get some cool custom stickers to cover up all the "oopsys" lmao

Here is my bikes USB charging system.. The board came out of an old [and I mean old...] car phone charger. the female USB end came off a computer I pulled apart. and the blue and red wiring came from a toaster oven, also pulled apart. [because the original wiring was super short] the little metal box its in, well I made that out of one of the flat pieces I saved from that toaster oven. still got to make a lid to seal it all off, but it works!
